Looking your best may be as much a science as it is an art, especially when is comes to makeup. You will surprised to know what you are putting on your face!

There are a lot of stores that sell makeup products. If you go to the aisle of makeup you will see; lipstick, nail polish, lip gloss, mascara, eye shadow, face powder, hair spray, eye liner, glitter, face cream, body lotion, and more. Every one of these items is a chemical concoction. Concoction means a mixture of various ingredients or elements.

The people who make these products have to know a lot about chemistry. A product has to be well made for it to feel good on your skin and for it to look good. Steve Hasher is a chemist and he is constantly working to create new products and improve old ones. Every tube of lipstick, face powder, and anti-wrinkle lotion contains a finely tuned mixture of ingredients, so it is pretty hard and interesting for them to make a good product and improve them.

Makeup has been around for a long time. No one really pays attention on what it is made of though! More than 4,000 years ago Ancient Egyptians had a variety of beauty aids. The women used to use a white powder to lighten their skin and used powered charcoal as eyeshadow. For the women that used the white powder they must have taken some care in formulating the cream from animal fat, starch and a chemical called tin oxide. Tin Oxide is the inorganic compound with formula SnO2. The mineral form of SnO₂ is called cassiterite, and this is the main ore of tin. This oxide is an important material in tin chemistry. It is colourless, diamagnetic and amphoteric solid. The fat came from animal carcasses and it was probably heated to remove any color. The starch was obtained by treating roots or grains with boiling water. Tin oxide was produced by heating tin metal in air.

Nowadays, just about every cosmetic product on the market has a unique foundation created to meet specific needs. Some are designed for people with dry skin, others for oily skin. Many foundations start with a combination of water and silicone, a very stable type of chemical. Substances called emulsifiers are then added to hold the water and silicone together. This keeps the ingredients from separating. Iron oxides produce crisper colors. Back then they would use tin oxide for the color.

Some companies steer clear of ingredients that come from animals. Other companies get their materials from plants, or they create them in labs. The biggest materials were called pearls and micas. They are tiny round particles that change the way light bounces off the face. The ending result is a soft blurring effect that supposedly makes people look and feel better.

Makeup can be really dangerous for your face! It might make you look good and feel amazing, but the side effects are the worst. It can cause you to have headaches, hair problems, acne, skin allergies, eye infections, infertility, premature ageing and hormonal imbalance. No matter how good the brand is it will makeup will always ruin your skin some type of way.

The chemicals that cause headaches are diazolidinyl urea and DMDM hydantoin both of which are tend to release formaldehyde are a common ingredient in many cosmetic products and are used as an antimicrobial preservative. These chemicals can also cause irritation of the mucous membranes, and cause damage to the eyes. So if you are wondering why you get headaches that is why.

Face Acne also comes from makeup. Your face is just like your body it needs to breathe and grow! When you cover your skin with makeup you end up clogging it. Some types of makeup which are in the form of liquids and creams clog the pores in your skin. This leads to the formation of blackheads, which when not cleaned well can form acne. This why you have to clean your face really good, when taking the makeup off.

Skin Allergies are caused by the chemicals known as parabens which include ethyl-paraben, butyl-paraben, and isopropyl-paraben are used as preservatives to prevent bacterial growth in cosmetics.Parabens can cause allergic reactions like skin irritation, blotches, and blemishes. Salicylate is also very common because it can cause really bad rashes on the skin, or even hives if your skin is sensitive.

Eye makeup products are used often by both genders! Little do they know that it can cause bad eye infections. If the makeup accidently goes in your eye it can cause it to have irritation. Too much mascara and eyeliner can cause bacteria to stay around the eye.

Believe it or not makeup can cause your face skin to look older. That is caused by wearing makeup for a long period of time. It will make the chemicals of the product permanently damage your skin. With time you will begin to see skin aging signs, for example, wrinkles or patchines. Makeup does help you hide it, but it’s making it worse since it was caused by it.

Skin Discoloration can cause bad things for your skin. For example, the toners you use to make your face a different color. If these products are not high quality then it was cause you to have skin discoloration.

All these side effects are really dangerous for your face. Which is why you have to make sure to follow the instructions behind each product. Also make sure it goes well to your skin because everyone has different types of skin.Makeup is not fully safe for everyone, but a lot of people buy it either way.

A fun fact about makeup is that it used to be against the law to wear expensive makeup. The reason behind that is because there was a law called “ Lex Oppia” in Roman times. The law said you couldn’t buy or wear makeup if it was from an expensive designer. Makeup items and fragrances imported from China, Germany and Gaul were all against the Lex Oppia law. It only lasted for about 20 years though so it wasn’t that bad for people who didn’t wear makeup yet.

Chemistry has a lot to do in a lot of things! People wouldn’t be able to make products without chemistry because everything includes some type of chemical.Knowing the chemical composition of cosmetics can help the cosmetician choose suitable products for their clients.

Cosmetics have around humans for thousands of years. Today the cosmetics industry rakes in over fifty billion dollars each year. The industry has come a long way from the copper and lead that the ancient Egyptians used to create the most primitive forms of makeup. Each years companies that sale different types of makeup have improved within the years. Due to development in technology and formations in new ingredients and formulas.Back then people would use a mixture of metal, lead, copper, ash and burnt almonds as makeup around their eyes.

It is really weird how they used to use a lot of different types of mixtures just so the makeup product they wanted would come out. Now what the future holds for us is insane! They want to build a Makeup Lamb!! The sad part is that it will only be mainly for actors, singers, presenters, and all different types of people who come on TV. The way this project works, is via a projector. While a term makeup should only associate with a backstage mirror, complete with lots of light bulbs for ideal makeup application lighting, this kind of makeup lamp is much more advanced.

The technology projects pixels directly onto the face of the person on stage, allowing for a projection of features such as wrinkles and shadowing to create a completely realistic illusion of a different face. Making someone look like anything they want to look like. Lamps can cope with facial expressions and project responsive pixels much faster than any previous technology. However the recent technological progressions are set to be bigger, better and more realistic.
