Automotive engineer is a very interesting science career. I’d be extremely interested in this topic because of my research and passion of cars. My past experience of working with my hands and engines push me to my passion of cars. People see cars as just transportation from point A to B, in my eyes it’s art that moves. This art piece are everywhere, in the city to the countryside, from our past and possibly in our future.
What exactly is the job of an automotive engineer? Let’s first focus on what is engineering. Engineering used the elements of math and science to make and put them together to make something new, amazing, or to assisted. Automotive engineering consist on building, testing, looks, and performance. These are the main topics automotive engineers look at when building the next car. Automotive engineers have a job to troubleshoot, design, plan and modify to mass produce the car of customers dreams. This science career is the most challenging and exciting but has a great reward at the end of the project if it’s a success(1). But the automotive industry is not a slow pace work, every company wants to be ahead of the other like a race. But the job isn’t finished once the car is off the build line. Last thing is to inspect each car for approval. The last thing a company or customer wants is an unsafe car.
The type of education you need for this job is a Bachelor’s degree in automotive engineering, depending if your college or school has this program.(2) Most jobs will pick you up if you have a great passion for automotive or have a great reputation for working on cars. Not all jobs have an automotive program, most companies will accept you if you had a mechanical engineering degree. If you have a background with anything automotive related, that will give you a greater chance.

Who are these people who made cars a thing? Why are they all around today? Henry Ford, “the godfather of automotives” was the first person to make a successful working “Horseless carriage” having it go into production and run efficiently. As a little boy he worked on a farm where he and his father worked. At the age of 16 Henry moved to the big city Detroit and got a job in an machine shop. This lead to his passion for moving parts. Perfect timing because the combustion engine came to the public and Henry Ford was hooked on the idea of this engine. After this discovery he moved back to his father’s farm and was working part time at Westinghouse Engine Company. Later on he finally created a farm locomotive, a steam powered tractor used to pull mowing tools. This lead him to move back to detroit and devote several years into the automotive industry.(3)
Another person that help make cars what they are today is Soichiro Honda, founder of honda which is the most reliable cars around the world. Soichiro at a young age was already interested in mechanics. The only thing that was an restricting for him to make his dream live was his impoverished family. They didn’t have a lot of money.from the start. Soichiro’s father opened up a bicycle shop and soichiro was working most times in that shop. But what really pushed soichiro was when people brought in their machines for him to try or would fix.
Again like Henry Ford the combustion engine came to the public. It began to become popular and soichiro believe he can make a car that reliable and didn’t waste as much gas as american cars.(4) People from two different parts of the world looking to make the world of transportation for all. But they both had the same idea. For these people in the car industry we thank them for putting work and effort to make these starts to something we all know today. We also thank these people for creating jobs for others to put their ideas in the future of automotive.
