What is work ethics in a workplace? Work ethics is when an employee is doing the right things at all times. When an employee is dependable and responsible, those are some of the roles of ethics in a workplace. In this case of the unprofessional conduct with Mrs. Pettit, she was an elementary school teacher. We will have to look at it more closely to see who was involved in the conduct with her to make a final decision on Mrs. Pettit’s conduct because it was dealing with sexual conduct.

This paper will go into details about what happened to Mrs. Pettit in her case. Did the Board of Education violate her right to privacy? In this case was she unprofessional or immoral? Was Pettit an unfit teacher in this case? Did they fire her or not and why? How did the court handle this case?

Mrs. Pettit was a licensed elementary teacher in California working with intellectually disabled students. She was working with this student over thirteen years before her career came to an end. Pettit career was abrupt because her and her husband joined the Swingers club in Los Angeles. Throughout her career as being an elementary teacher, she had nothing but positives report on her. Teaching was not the only thing Pettit was interested in she was also involved in sexual activities(Shaw,2014p.342).

I do believe the Board of Education violated her right to privacy when she joined the club. I feel like the Board of Education was wrong for violated her. At the time when Mrs. Pettit went to the club, she wasn’t at school time or with any students. Pettit has a life of her own and whatever she does outside her career is her business. Everyone has their own right to privacy if it does not affect others.

Was Pettit behaviors unprofessional or immoral? I won’t say her behavior was immoral because she does have a right to live her private life. On the other hand, though I would say she did have some unprofessional behavior going on in this case. I feel like as a teacher she had no business getting on television talking about sex in public. Everything is not meant to be discussed in public especially sex.

Personally, business should be discussed at home with your spouse, not on television. Teachers should always have good performance whether they are around students are not kids can easily get influenced.
