I want everyone to think to themselves, “Can money buy happiness?” Some of you would say, “Well, yeah there are so many things I can buy that will make me happy!” Not really, let me explain. Happiness is a difficult word to clarify but it’s not impossible. We all have a different point of view on what it means. Because we all have something different that makes us happy. Hello staff and students I’m Kate, and by the end of this speech I’ll give you an answer to the question “Can Money Buy Happiness”>Can money buy happiness?”
Let’s say you won the lottery of $70,000,000 you instantly become very happy, you start buying things like high end cars, branded clothing, and the things you like. Sooner or later, you become overwhelmed by all that money. You forget about your family and friends, who can give give you long lasting happiness by simply having a conversation with them or spending some time together. Then suddenly you feel alone, empty, sad. But you’ve got everything that can entertain you. In the end, your not really satisfied. If you know you have a good relationship with a friend, you know that they will care for you, laugh, and cry with you. But say you choose to buy your friends, I could say they probably won’t care much about you. They will probably care more about what you have.
The co-founder if Microsoft once said, “When you have money in hand, only you forget who you are. But when you don’t have money everyone forgets who you are. We have to reflect on why money can have a huge influence on us, it can affect the way we think and act. Sometimes, we’re not really aware of what we think is good or not. Some people think money could get you anything in the world, like knowledge, power, clout, and many other things. But we have to think, “Is what I’m doing really going to make me happy?” Money itself can become addictive. not everyone in life are wealthy, so money isn’t the answer to all problems.

I think money can’t buy us eternal happiness, people would say money could buy happiness because with that money you can buy those shoes you’ve been dying to get, or the latest iphone. But that happiness is limited because those things won’t last forever. So in conclusion, can money buy happiness? Money can’t buy emotions love or joy, it can’t buy something like a loved one who passed away. Real happiness is not decided by how big the amount is in your bank account, it’s the people we have in our life, the things we can’t buy with money that makes us happy is what counts.
