Mathematics, when you hear the word you just think about how boring numbers are. Yes math can be tedious. However math helps us as people understand our entire Universe and how it works and allow us to find new after new ways to help us explore our galaxy.
One person who was an incredible mathematician was katherine Johnson. Katherine was a young African-American girl who would grow up to be a very important person in U.S Space history. She was very fascinated by space and would eventually get her opportunity to help contribute to the world.
Katherine was a reliable source when it came down to math and physics. She first got her education at West Virginia College and would then get a teaching job in virginia right out of graduating college. She would then after that be introduced to The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics’ Langley Laboratory. She was assigned to Dorothy Vaughan , another woman scientist. She would then spend the next 4 years after that analyzing data from test flights.

The 1957 launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik changer history- and her life. In that same year she released some of the math for the 1958 document “ Notes on Space Technology”. She then later worked down the line on Alan’s Shepard May 1961 Mission Freedom 7,america’s first human space flight. After this she then went on to continue her work with NASA and she said her greatest achievement was when she helped do and finalize the calculations for the lunar lander for the Apollo missions that would inevitably lead to the first man walking on the moon to end the space race.
Others that could have helped with the Apollo missions are all of the other staff members from NASA as the brave men and women watched from houston to observe their entire life’s work unfold in front of them.
THIS act of exploration would then go on to allow the human race to continue its further exploration of space and all of its contents and help us ,as mankind, figure out the great wonders of the universe while giving all of us a common goal to explore and achieve together.
So in the end although math may seem like a boring subject that is just repetitive and has no purpose. I say how dare you for math helps us solve life’s great mysteries, for math helps us get over everyday obstacles, and for math helps us find our way and journey in life.
