Equality is a human right, it is the equal treatment requires that all persons be treated equally, without any discrimination. Skin color, religion, or sex we must treat everybody equally. Let me take you to the reality, a true story film entitled “Hidden Figures” directed by Theodore Melfi and written by Melfi and Allison Schroeder. The movie is all about the black female mathematicians who experienced inequality between colored and white citizens of America, they worked at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA during the Space Race. They are Taraji P. Henson as Katherine Goble Johnson, Octavia Spencer as Dorothy Vaughan and Janelle Monáe as Mary Jackson.

The film is absolutely worth screening, it reminds me of no matter what people says to you or no matter if you are experiencing inequality and discrimination in life, based on your physical appearance, you just need to keep on fighting or proving yourself to other people and fight for your own dream.

The plot of the film was one hundred percent original without any cliché, given that it was based on a true story the ending is not predictable at all, at first there was a child namely Katherine Coleman, was naming different geometric shapes in glass window, while waiting for her parents talking to a school official because they want to send Katherine into a Advanced School because Katherine is genius at mathematics even though she was only 8 years old by that time. When the school year started the teacher asked Katherine to show the solution of an algebra problem on the blackboard, the camera zooms on the teacher’s hand when he gave the chalk to Katherine. As the time passed by, in an adult Katherine is now Katherine Goble, she’s with her 2 coworkers namely Mary and Dorothy, they were stuck at the middle of the road that’s why a racist police officer stops and ask for their identification. After they showed their ID’s the police man was shocked because he knew that the 3 women are working at NASA.

As they arrived at their department, by the way they are working at West Area Computing division, they are separated from the white people. They’re with other black women who work as computers it means that they are computing manually. While in the middle of their work Vivian Mitchell, Dorothy’s boss came to their department to tell her that the Space Task Group needs a new computer who can do analytic geometry. Dorothy assigned Katherine because she knows that Katherine can do it because she is best at numbers.

In the Engineering Department, Mary was walking with her papers at a sealed chamber where the space capsule is about to be test. As the testing of the capsule is about to end and it was already near by zero, the heel of her shoes got stacked in a grate of the floor and the engineer shout that her life is not worthy for a shoe. The capsule failed the wind test so Mary suggested to try different materials then an engineer tell her that she ought to be an engineer but she was a negro woman, because the school that offers the program needed to be an engineer are off-limits to colored people. Then, Katherine started to work she was struggling in the times that she need to go to the comfort room because there are no CR for colored people on their department that’s why Mr. Harrison, Katherine’s boss remove all those signage in the Rest Rooms.

Then another launch will be going to happen and they gathered to meet John Glenn who will be the pilot of the Friendship 7, becoming a first American in orbit. The Friendship 7 was already launch and unexpected thing happened. For the camera angels, the cinematography, costumes, lighting and the overall visual appearance of the film was amazing and absolutely beautiful and fitted to the genre of the film. They also include different original footage and pictures of the actual happenings because this film was a based on a true story.

To conclude, this film is worth watching for, it made me realize that nothing is impossible once you believe and work for it. I salute those people in this film. And after watching this film I am inspired to study more on mathematics and to be an engineer or to know the analytic geometry, just kidding. But to be honest I was so inspired after watching this because in reality nowadays we have these gadgets and technology to get the answers of our questions quickly but imagine, Katherine Goble Johnson did all those computations manually. And this film didn’t only teach me about mathematics and science but also in manners, that we have no right to degrade other people based on his culture or physical appearance because as the bible verse Romans 2:11 says that, “For there is no partiality with God” we are made equally and we need to treat other people equally. And if you want to be inspired also and if you want to be amazed maybe this film is for you. Hidden Figures can give you more positive outlook if you work hard and believe. As Mary Jackson said that “Every time we have a chance to get ahead, they move the finished line. Every Time”
