Pharmacy is an honorable field that requires a challenging education, desire to help others, self-discipline and the knowledge of technological and medical advances. This demanding profession allows students the opportunity for personal and educational growth. The adventure and endless possibilities that await new graduates is what initially drew me to this profession.

After careful consideration of the skills and knowledge necessary to be a successful pharmacist, I pursued my prerequisites with passion and the knowledge that my own qualities will prove to be invaluable throughout this journey. The lessons that I have garnered will provide me with a strong foundation to continue to build upon.

As I have continued to reflect on what I could bring to the field of pharmacy, I came to understand that my strength is in my ability to adapt to change and flourish in different settings. My life as a supportive military spouse, mother, and prior teacher has provided me with the tools to thrive in a variety of situations.

The unpredictability of moving seven times in ten years combined with deployments have taught me to think quick on my feet, remain positive and to encourage those around me. With every move or change, my family unit has remained strong and continues to grow together. These attributes and unconditional support will be beneficial as I adjust to the changes in a professional pharmacy program and as I transition to the career field.

In addition to my adaptable nature, my drive to pursue a career in pharmacy is led by a passion to help others and challenge myself on a personal and professional level. I have been captivated by the opportunity to contribute to the medical field through the changing world of medicine. I aspire to become a retail pharmacist so that I may have the opportunity to work with individuals on an intimate level to achieve optimal health.

Through my own journey, I know that I have gained the qualities to be successful in meeting the needs of patients. My previous education and work in the classroom have supplied me with a unique set of skills that will help in communicating with all patients on a level that is right for them. This will help create an environment that allows us to work as a team reaching for the same goal.

Attaining my first degree over ten years ago was further complicated by my own personal path to find my place in the world. Through those obstacles I learned valuable lessons that include strong study habits, time management skills, and the ability to balance my commitments. With the love and support from family and friends, I have developed a strong sense of self that has proven to be beneficial in my current and future goals.

As a mother and former teacher, a remarkable part of my life has been dedicated to caring for others and nurturing their aspirations. Therefore, combined with my previous experience as a pharmacy technician, I realized that I could bring the love of teaching and helping others to the medical field to create the perfect match.

Returning to school to complete prerequisite courses while raising my family may have had its challenges but it solidified my aspirations to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals. I have been intrigued by the field of chemistry and how it relates to the functions of the human body. The combination of courses has reinforced my decision to learn more about medicine and the capability it provides to change and improve lives.

I look forward to implementing my skills in a professional program that will incorporate past, present and future learning to my career and enhance my ability to help others. I am confident that the knowledge I acquired through learning in the pharmacy and life experiences has further prepared me for the rigor that comes with continuing my education and in my professional career.

My journey has taken me far from home and challenged me in ways I never imagined but I realized that my passion for pharmacy never faded. Now that I have the opportunity to try again, I want to share my love for chemistry and health with others so that I may be able to impact their lives. New obstacles will materialize as I continue taking steps toward my dream but I plan to continue challenging myself in pursuit of my goal to become a pharmacist. The skills and knowledge I have attained will make me a valuable asset to your Doctor of Pharmacy program.
