A new project that is helping the environment and all people around. This invention is called a Grease trap, this is something that a kitchen wastewater can flow through before entering the sewer waste system. This makes the grease rise from the water to go to a tank so it “traps” the grease and makes sure the water is clean. With this invention there are legal procedures, agency relationships, environmental law and this is also affecting requirements of a business.
There are many legal procedures that go with this invention and to go with the placement of this device. There are many with a food handling facility that deals with what they wash down the drain such as; food, dishes, fats, oils and grease. It is confirmed that some churches already have the 1,000-gallon grease trap, which was chosen as a minimum standard so that all the entities had the same size, that it would be put outside and easy to see and regulate.
Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is in charge of the food handling and to make sure they enforce the laws that have to deal with the grease trap,it is required a minimum that 1,000-gallon grease trap in placed into restaurants and food handling facilities. If companies fail to do so without there is a maximum civil penalty of $2,000 per violation, per day. In the case of a monthly or other long-term average discharge limit, penalties may accrue for each day during the period of the violation. They make these laws because if one company fails to put in this trap it affects everyone’s environment and health and it’s not fair that everyone else had to spend money on putting the grease trap in.
The agency that that goes and inspects that the food handling company has put in the grease trap is the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. A person who worked there shared that that someone may be surprised to see what goes down the drain after some church events, especially when people use a garbage disposal. Danville, which is putting in a new kitchen, would also be subject to the requirement. “The main reason for the grease trap is to keep all the grease from going to the line and stopping up the sewer line.
Then if you are down the stream from a restaurant it stops up your line and it backs up to your house and we have an issue. It’s source point treatment, we like to take care of it at the source instead of letting this city have to take care of it in the future.” The grease trap is helping the environment and the Texas Commission has seen that so they have put in the law for companies to put in grease traps so it will help the environment.
The regulations for every company is that they must have a grease trap including municipal, state, or federal, whose business activity is the source of cooking grease or oil in sewage such as restaurants, cafeterias, and food-processing plant and is located in an area that has adopted a plumbing code. h. The TCEQ regulates the pumping, transportation, and disposal of all grease-trap waste. The TCEQ may regulate the design, size, and installation of grease traps and interceptors during the permitting of a septic system. Only transporters registered with the TCEQ can legally pump and transport grease-trap waste.
Restaurants as the first party are required to put in this system to prevent blockages of the sewer system due to grease and oils discharged. If the first party fails to put in the grease trap it will affect others in many ways. This can affect others by blocking the sewer system and affecting how other companies drain things by there lines being blocked up too. Affect the job of others trying to clean up the grit from the sewers when they shouldn’t have to really anymore with this invention. Most importantly not putting in the grease trap will affect many people’s health in the community. Having the sewers blocked will make the air have disposal in it and it won’t be clean resulting in people breathing it in and getting sick. Many things can be affected to many other people if the first party just doesn’t put in the grease trap.
The grease trap is a mandatory requirement for businesses and it is there for many reasons. This invention is here to help the community and will be enforced by TCEQ and approved of the City Code of Enforcement. If failed to put in there will be consequences. The grease trap is here to make sure our water is clean and as everyone knows water is an important thing to human life and this invention will help with everyone.
