While our world is being hit with the pandemic of COVID19, people are striving to make ends meet and looking for a job. Despite the fact that it is difficult to find employment under these circumstances, there still may be some jobs available. However, employers are still focused on hiring people who demonstrate essential qualities for work. These qualities I believe could be integrity, professionalism, and work ethic. Next, I will be discussing the significance of each one of these traits that an employer considers to be essential upon hiring someone.
Employers look at integrity to be one of the most essential and fundamental qualities in a person, because they want to ensure that who they bring into their work environment is someone who has good moral values. These moral values include possessing traits that promote a good sense of honesty, accountability, and responsibility. According to the article, “How to Encourage and Maintain Integrity In The Workplace”; Integrity is crucial to employers because hiring an individual with good integrity means that they will act with honesty under all circumstances. Also, it will show respect and good conduct towards their coworkers (Roubler.com, p.1). Some people may argue that integrity is not as important as experience and high skills, but the lack of integrity often leads to insubordination and division amongst coworkers. Which in turn slows or bogs productivity or causes chaos in a workplace. Therefore, I believe having integrity is essential to employers when hiring someone.
Another essential skill employers look for when hiring is professionalism, because it is a key value for integrity. “A company known for its positive reputation and professionalism is one which will stand the test of time” (aib.edu.au, pg.1). Without maintaining good professionalism, an institution would not have the potential to expand or grow because it lacks good reputation. Degrees of professionalism can be learned with the experience of job duties. Therefore, when an individual successfully completes the task they are given consistently, it proves to the employer that they have a good sense of professionalism.
Thirdly, a prime example of good work ethic is when social activist and public speaker, Helen Keller, spoke with a wise statement: “I long to accomplish some great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble.” (Erskine, pg.1). An employer will look for a strong work ethic because it is a crucial part to building a successful business. The ability to overcome obstacles with an outstanding and positive attitude and the willingness to work towards completion in a consistent timely manner on any task given. That is why employers seek for good work ethic in a potential employee.
In conclusion, these three essential skills: integrity, professionalism, and work ethic are core values employers seek when hiring new potential workers. Integrity promotes an outstanding and promising future to a work environment that practices by it. Professionalism provides a healthy and respectful work atmosphere. And a good work ethic constitutes the well being of the workplace’s future. This is why I think these are the three most essential skills employers aspire to find in someone they hire.
