Ever since I was in my teenage years, I have been dreaming of starting my own company. As both of my parents are people in business, I was inspired to start my own company from a very young age. I would sometime help out my parents by doing some ground works, but it was mostly to understand how my parents were running their business. To follow up on that dream, I decided to study in the field marketing after finishing my high school. I understood that besides having some hand on experience on working with my parents, I needed some institutional education if I want to move forward and challenge myself further. On that note, I got very curious about marketers selling technique and strategy. I was amazed by how they are creating a position of their product or service in the mind of a customer or how they could understand their psychology. I realized that satisfying the customers should always be the primary goal. Maybe I would be able to understand the psyche of the local people by just having hands-on experience. But to go global, I need to sharpen my knowledge and critical thinking. With that in mind, I joined the Bachelor of Business Administration (Major- Marketing) program at BRAC Business School which is one of the top-ranked private university in Bangladesh.
On the first day at my university, I have joined one of the biggest and renowned clubs, BRAC University Business Club. They wanted me to join their marketing department and was promoted to a marketing executive very quickly. But I was not satisfied with my responsibilities as I wanted something more challenging. I got tired of the repetitive and mundane task I had to do there and also I understood my contribution wouldn’t be recognized as something significant among so many. I also wasn’t learning anything which I already didn’t know. So I left and joined a small club called BRAC University Entrepreneurship Development Forum. There, I got the chance to work with some fantastic seniors who taught me the ins and outs of organizing events and securing sponsors. As the club was very small, I had to take on many responsibilities by myself. Besides, I had to do my studies as well. I was pleased with my work because it was pushing me further to my limits and I got chance to work independently. Because of my hard work and dedication, I was selected as the Head of Marketing by my club advisor. During that time we organized lots of events which required branding through social media, interacting with people from many industries and most importantly understanding the psychology of people on how to manage these events. By the end of my stay, around 70 people were working under my supervision which was seven times more people than when I joined, and our club had become one of the most popular organizations of our university. During my stay, I got the opportunity to meet with the CEO of some biggest multinational companies and some successful Entrepreneur of our country. I have learned so many things from their success stories.
I also managed to secure an Internship at Kuehne Nagel Bangladesh Ltd. which was a freight forwarding multinational company where I worked in the airfreight department. There I realized again that Management really is one of the most crucial parts of an organization. It helps to encourage individual activity that will lead to reach organizational goals. Currently, I am working at BATCO Ltd which is an Agro-based company as a Management Trainee Officer. Here I have to work under multiple departments and I also have to report directly to the Managing Director. But once again I realize it is not challenging enough for me.
As I am now done with my Bachelor degree, I would like to learn more and sharpen my skills. In recent years, Bangladesh has adapted to the trend of globalization and transformed from a low-tech manufacturing base into a technology-based economy. To compete in such dynamic and quickly developing country, I need to increase my knowledge and critical thinking further to keep up with the pace. Besides, I want to see me in a position where I would be able to contribute to society as well as my country with my work. That is why I want to do my higher studies abroad and be part of this global trend. For what could be better on understanding the global direction than actually being a part of it. For that reason, I have chosen Canada to be the place where I want to go. I have always wanted to study in Canada because it has a well-known reputation for providing world-class higher education.
Also, it is one of the safest and peaceful countries in the world. I chose New York Institute of Technology because of the excellent reputation and world-class education they can provide. Also, Vancouver is one of the most beautiful places in Canada to live in because of the suitable weather. The Masters of Business Administration, Management program that I am applying will help me to develop my critical thinking, problem-solving skill, along with enhancing my knowledge. It will also help me to build my professional skills as well as my leadership quality. I am optimistic that pursuing a Masters of Business Administration degree at NYIT will equip me with required qualification and knowledge to advance my career. I am almost certain that getting a degree here would allow me to realize my dream of starting a company that would be able to supply products and provide services worldwide and would allow my country to participate in the global economy further through me.
