A phone is something that people use in their everyday lives. Sometimes it becomes time consuming. People get distracted by playing games or watching videos on the internet. Although people use phones for entertainment purposes, they mostly use it to communicate. Even though talking over the phone is more personal, texting is a quicker and more efficient way of communicating.
Texting is a time saver. If someone is putting together a party and they need to send out invites, it will take way too much time to call and invite each and every single person. With text messaging, that person can create a group message with the time, date and address. This way, people can avoid awkward small talk and all of the guests have everything they need. Not only does group messaging work well for planning a party, it’s beneficial when contacting sports teams as well. A coach can send out a text that a payment is due or a game has been canceled. Now the coach doesn’t have to worry about if all the members from the team are on board with what’s going on.
Talking over the phone with someone technically makes it easier for people to understand a story. They get to hear the person’s tone of voice and emotion. This makes it more personal. But in some cases, this isn’t what everyone wants. Many people suffer from social anxiety and fear having to actually speak with another person. With texting, people don’t have to panic about having the one on one contact that they are scared of. People can say what they want without having to see the person’s reaction. Texting also gives people the freedom to answer whenever they please. They are not obligated to answer right when they have received a message. This puts people’s mind at ease because they don’t have to come up with an answer right away like they would over the phone. They have the choice to keep the conversation going or not even answer at all.
Texting is also a way of having a private conversation. In stores, on public transportation, and even in an office, people can be heard talking, yelling or even crying. Many find this irritating because nobody wants to be listening in on their conversation. Thanks to texting, this has become less prevalent. This way, people can discus private information and share their personal thoughts without having to worry about who else is listening.
All in all, text messaging can be seen as more convenient than phone calls due to the fact of how quick it is. Multiple people can be reached at once, which can save a lot of time. It helps people with anxiety so they don’t have to face an actual person. Texting is a more private way of communicating. People don’t have to worry about others listening in on their conversation. At the end of the day, people will have their own opinion on how texting or phone calls convenience them. It’s only a matter of preference.
