Most people in the world are using a cell phone. They use a cell phone to chat, use a phone to watch the video, use a cell phone to play games. Some people said if we use a cell phone for a long time, the radiation can cause cancer or some other problems to the human body but some people don’t believe that. So my hypothesis is that cell phone radiation is a problem and I have three key questions: what is cell phone radiation? What are the effects of cell phone radiation? What are the solutions to the problems of cell phone radiation? Why I chose this topic because it is a hot topic, and people need to know the cell phone radiation is harmful or not.

Cell Phone Radiation Definition

What is cell phone radiation? Cell phone radiation is a form of electromagnetic radiation. The radiation defined according to measure its wavelength and frequency. The number of cycles of a wave that passes a reference point per second. There are two types of radiofrequency radiation: ionizing and non-ionizing. Ionizing radiation is high frequency, and therefore high energy. Non-ionizing radiation is low frequency, and therefore low energy. There is a thing that can take the sound of our voice and encodes it onto a continuous sine wave called a transmitter. The sine wave is measured in terms of frequency, which is the number of times a wave oscillates up and down per second. Cell phones have a low power transmitter in them. Most car phones have a transmitter power of 3 watts. A handheld cell phone operates on about 0.75 to 1 watts of power. The radio waves that send the encoded signal is made up of electromagnetic radiation propagated by the antenna. The function of an antenna in any radio transmitter is to launch the radio waves into space; in the case of a cell phone, these waves are picked up by a receiver in the cell-phone tower. When I first read this source I thought 0.75 watts is very less, then I realized if we keep using a cell phone for a month or a year the power will become huge. Before I do this research I knew nothing about cell phone radiation, I don’t even know the cell phone have radiation or not, but now I know the cell phone does have radiation, and it is a type of radio waves.

What are the effects of cell phone radiation? I think lots of people know the radiation is bad, but they don’t know why the radiation is bad. The frequency of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation ranges from 30kHZ to 300GHZ. That is a big number of frequencies. Electromagnetic are used for telecommunications applications, including cell phone, TV, and radio transmissions. An increased risk of brain tumors from cell phone radiation is not established, even the number of people use cell phones is increasing. Now we are still don’t know the cell phone radiation is harmful or not, because the lack of data for using a cell phone is less than 15 years, and the scientists need to do more research of cell phone use and brain cancer, but the scientists found out that there is “no association between cell phone use and the incidence of glioma, meningioma, or acoustic neuroma”. In some places on earth, a few people who had been using cell phones for 13 years, and they didn’t get brain cancer. There is also no consistent on non-ionizing radiation increase cancer risk.

Ionizing Radiation Causes Cancer

Ionizing radiation like X-ray is known to increase the risk of cancer. So in the hospital, the place that has X-ray machines, there is a very big metal door to avoid the radiation came out. However, although many studies have examined the potential health effects of non-ionizing radiation like microwave ovens, cell phones, or other devices, there is no consistent evidence that non-ionizing can increase the risk of cancer in humans. The only consistent effect of radiofrequency radiation is heating. For example, microwave ovens heat food, this is the effect of radiofrequency radiation by heating. When we are holding a cell phone or other device, the radio frequency exposure does cause heating to the area of our body. But it is not sufficient to measure the temperature that our body increases. So there is no other clearly established effect on the human body from radiofrequency radiation. Over this paragraph, I think the cell phone radiation is no damage to humans in the short term, but in the long term the scientists still need to find out the effect of radiation, but now we can make sure that the risk of we get cancer by the cell phone radiation is very low.

Solutions to Cell Phone Radiation

What are the solutions to the problems of cell phone radiation? At the above, I said the percentage of we get cancer is very low by cell phone radiation, but we still need to be careful because the scientists don’t know the long-term cause. So if we want to avoid the percentage increase We should use our phone in the good signal areas where it is possible, then we need to keep the voice calls short, especially when our hands are not free. We better use the phone on speaker mode, so we can keep a distance from the phone to our brain. If there are not very important things, texting is better than talking. That is what I do, I always text to my homestay, if I didn’t have dinner at home. We can also place our thumb between the phone and our ear when we are having a phone call. We should not sleep near the phone with the cell phone powered on. I know somebody likes to put a cell phone into the inside pocket of their clothes close to the heart, it is not good, the danger is as much as that we sleep with the phone powered on. If we have the economic condition, we can set the landline phone at home, and we should use that for most of our conversation we should avoid using a cell phone inside spaces. The most important one is that we should not let children use cell phones, because children’s brains are still growing so the danger is Much more than adults. For now, we don’t know the cell phone radiation can cause some problems of our body in the long term or not, if we can keep using the cell phone in the right distance, and we do the right things that I wrote above, then even if the radiation is harmful to long term, and it can cause problems, that the chance we get these problems is much lower.

In summary, my idea before I did the research is cell phone radiation is bad, it can cause cancer, but when I finish doing the research I found that the cell phone radiation is not a problem in the short term, because the scientists say there is no consistent evidence that non-ionizing can increase the risk of cancer in humans.
