When you think of the weather, you usually think of a small thunderstorm, light snowing, or outside being windy and cold. But severe weather is much, much worse. Many times that severe weather has struck, the forces have destroyed homes and people have had to evacuate homes to stay away from these powerful storms. Many people have lost their lives due to these powerful storms. Severe weather includes things such as: hurricanes, tornadoes, and blizzards.
Hurricanes
Hurricanes are formed when wind blows over the ocean in warm places. It is uncommon for hurricanes to form, so things need to be perfect as stated in Source 1: Hurricanes “When things are just right, a large spinning system of winds can cause stormy weather.” Hurricanes are very big storms that have to have winds at 74 miles per hour to be called a hurricane. They also bring floods, mostly near the ocean.
Tornadoes
Tornadoes are also very strong winds, just in a different way. “A tornado is a swirling, funnel-shaped column of wind that gets its start from a thunderstorm.” as stated in Source 2: Tornadoes. Tornadoes are very destructive and one tornado blew over a small town called Greensburg in Kansas. The tornado blew away almost everything in the town. The winds in a tornado can reach over 200 miles per hour! Everything in a tornado can be blown away, such as: cars, trucks, and buildings.

Blizzards
A blizzard is a very strong snowstorm. In a blizzard, not many things are visible and no one should be driving. “Blizzards are the most dangerous types of snow storms.” as stated in Source 3: Blizzards. They are dangerous because they have winds that reach up to 35 miles per hour and blow the snow around at very high speeds. When these winds occur in a blizzard, they blow the snow creating things known as “whiteout conditions.” This is where all you can see is the snow that is blowing from the high speed winds. You also need to be prepared in a blizzard in case you get snowed in.
In closing, blizzards, hurricanes, and tornadoes are some forms of severe weather. They are all very dangerous and destructive. These events are dangerous in their own ways, but many have occurred over the course of time. Hurricanes bring strong winds and floods, tornadoes bring stronger winds and much destruction. Blizzards bring lots of snow and wind. All of these forms of severe weather are dangerous and if they do occur, stay safe and be prepared.
