Online English Composition I has increased my writing techniques and skills, made me realize my strengths and weaknesses as a an English student, and has given me the experiences to let high school students know what to expect out of this course.
To begin with, I would say my writing skills started very bland and my essays were set up wrong. As I went through this class, I feel that my writing skills have improved greatly. Within this semester, I worked hard and accomplished to improve my writing level to a high school level to a junior college writing level. Taking this class has now assured me that this class has prepared me for English Composition II, which I will take next semester. The main skills that I have improved over the semester would have to be my transitioning, setting up thesis statements, and adding more detail within my sentences.
Secondly, like any other junior college writer, I have few useful strengths that accompany a number of weaknesses. I will begin my weaknesses. For me as a writer, it is quite a task to start an essay, still to this day. Before I even begin to think about a conclusion, my mind has to write and process the body of the essay first, and every now and then my sentence structure will cause a problem. The most common occurring problem I have when writing though, is not knowing how to end a paragraph. It will be a challenge one day that I will face, when trying to end a paragraph better.
Along with my weaknesses, I do have some useful strength. Essay wise, I am outstanding when it comes to writing research papers. I enjoy researching a topic that grabs my interest. I also love to write fictional short stories. When I get bored at my house I like to sit down at my desk and use my imagination and detail to accomplish writing a very well written and understandable fiction tale. Then when it comes to writing, the only convincing strength I have, is my grammar. Whether I am writing, emailing, or texting, I strongly prefer to use proper grammar. Looking back at all my characteristics within the way I write, you would not necessarily believe that I would pass as a professional author, but my characteristics are, to me, in a good position for my age.
Lastly, I feel this course has granted me with at least little knowledge to advise beginners in this class. I have a few important points that high school students, that are preparing to take English Composition online, should take into their consideration. In online college composition, students have to be responsible, have to follow many deadlines, and they cannot get behind. This course is not going to be an easy course to run through.
Many hurdles will come your way and you have to have the determination and be willing to do what you can to accomplish the task correctly. While students are in role in English Comp I, responsibility will always play a role. I. Students will have many papers to write, and they will have to get them finished on time or the teacher will cut them from the course and they will no longer be able to finish the class. Deadlines also play a big role in this class.
Every week, and for every piece of work students do, there will be a deadline. With all the work students will be receiving, they will not have time to get behind in the course. The work will pile up and will result in missing deadlines, which in turn will result in being cut from the course, or possibly failing and getting back in line to try again. Through online college composition I, students will have to try their hardest and as long as they do that, they should pass with no problem. Then I caght a burd.
