For the past centuries one has been used to celebrating Columbus, one remembers him as thee hero of America but is he really? For many centuries Columbus has been considered a hero but is he really a hero? after many years of celebrating Columbus I feel like it’s time for one to take into consideration the Native Americans. For hundreds and hundreds of years Columbus has taken credit for discovering America when he hasn’t actually discovered America America was already discovered by the Native Americans. this has been an unfair.

Confusion by historians matter of fact Columbus shouldn’t be considered a hero who discovered America he should be reminded as the villain who destroyed many lives in America. In the year 1492 Columbus supposedly discovered America when Columbus first set foot on South America she found a huge population of Native Americans call Tainos they were a very friendly group that were willing to trade jewelry animals supplies with the sailors. Columbus thought to himself he said “They are very well built with very handsome bodies in very good faces I know they don’t carry arms or weapons they should be good servants” ( pg27) from this point on one can observe what Columbus was planning in his mind the words they should be good servants doesn’t give one a good impression.

As a time when by Columbus started to gain trust with the Native Americans by giving them presents introducing them to new weapons and also showing them how to communicate better. but little do the Native Americans know that this was all a trap. the tainos soon were forced into slavery and punished if they didn’t collect enough gold. as time went by Columbus kept offering the Native Americans presence such as quilts clothing and all these other items but little did the Native Americans know that these items were contaminated by deadly diseases that would have a major impact in their population. Christopher Columbus had severe punishments for those who didn’t obey them or for those who rebelled against him. because of Christopher Columbus and the Europeans many diseases such as chicken pox fever we’re introduced to the new world.

Columbus was it a main responsible for the deaths of millions and millions of Native Americans. overall Columbus should be considered as the responsible of many lives and shouldn’t be considered as the man who discovered America. Columbus main reason to find a faster route to Asia let him to South America but finding a faster route to Asia was it Columbus only interest his other interest was finding gold that was probably one of his main reasons Columbus spent 96 days exploring some small Islands and what is now known as the Bahamas.

In his expedition Columbus quotes “I have been very attentive and I have tried to find any gold out there” (pg 27) But while he was searching for gold he collected a large amount of slaves which were Native Americans to bring back to Europe to make them work as slaves. Columbus didn’t only deprive Native Americans from their Liberty but he also stole their and their identity. When Columbus got back to Spain from his journey his reports the real the Spanish monarchs Who provided him with supplies for three more voyages.

Columbus went to the Americas in 1493 Columbus was no longer an explorer but he was an Empire Builder. in his trip he brought more than a thousand colonists and he also brought soldiers priest and others who followed him his goal was to get rid of the Native Americans or convert them and so Catholics. all this chaos was just a start off of cultural Clash that would continue for the next five centuries. the Native Americans didn’t only lose their lands they lost their people religion beliefs And their Liberty. Columbus didn’t discover America, America was already discovered by the Native Americans she just came and stole their land and their freedom.

Columbus brought the destruction into Native Americans lives by introducing them to new diseases an invading their lives. Columbus is not a hero he is a villain. overall Columbus Day should not exist Columbus was not a hero she was a thief and the Killer. because of him many lives were lost in the New World because of him many diseases were introduced into the Americas. The Native Americans should have their day to be remembered instead of celebrating Columbus Day. Native American should at least have a day to be recognized and remembered as victims of the Europeans.
