Human nature has been interpreted in diversified modes that try to illustrate the notion of authenticity. Some believe that human nature can be controlled within ourselves while others believe that human ambitions and desires are driven to excessive needs that end up compromising societal progress and harmony. Thus, in contemporary culture people are more focused on the notion of self through the ideals of individualism that emphasizes a loss of meaning.

Authenticity and individualism has been characterized as a self-centering ideal that distances us from others and concerns that transcend the self which prevents individuals from living a fulfilling life through the concept of true authenticity. However, Taylor believed that authenticity is more than about the individual self. It is a perception of diversified degrees that also includes recognition from others and self-discovery which delivers us to a richer form of life. Hence, authenticity allows people to define themselves through positions within the community that encourages the growth of originality and individual identity.

Taylor noticed the dangers of contemporary individualism that failed to understand a broader perception which goes beyond the self. Although it is important for people to establish and explore their own forms of life, it is also crucial to take part in issues such as politics, religion, or history which allow acknowledgement of our ideals and the development of our identities. Building a stronger case of your belief helps cultivate a powerful foundation of your own character.

To build a strong case one would need to be able to listen and understand the position of the counter argument. Only then can your truly acquire the expertise that you need in order to better advocate your understandings and views. Becoming aware of your surroundings and taking part within the community puts emphasis on equal recognition of fairness and love relationships that help establish individual identities which in turn opens the door for self-discovery.

Taylor understood that societal changes with aspects of politics and the economy helped strengthen individualism through everyday practices. Thus, allowing people to boost their own originality and imagination against the demands of external conformities which helps to build a modern culture that involves a respect within differences. Such differences can be visualized through the gifts of arts and poems. These modes of expression deliver a peculiar sensibility of the artist and writer that expresses their own vision of reality.

Thus, through sensibility we can visualize the creators originality that helps build and complete their own identity as well as the identities of the observers. Although publicly available resources for mimetic art can come in handy, it can never replace individual passion and imagination that goes beyond conventional practices. Those linkages to our inner selves allow us to articulate our identity through a more differentiated life of authenticity.

In conclusion, the contemporary culture of individualism should focus less on “me” and more on factors that will elevate our horizon of significance. In a society that is so familiar with being alone, we need to take proper measures and learn to communicate and form dialogical relations of equal recognition. Thus, we should not only stress individual freedom but put emphasis on societal participation that will shape the modern culture.

Through constant application of social change, we can truly develop our own ideals and reach further into the movement of self-discovery that involves originality which connects internal feelings to the external expressions. This is the form of authenticity that will lead us to a more responsible model of life and a richer mode of existence that goes beyond the contemporary ideals of individualism. Authenticity should include the progression of our moral horizons through the recognition of differences which allow individual sensibility of uniqueness to prosper and be able to define our own authentic identity.
