From the moment you are born, everything you see and do shapes the way you are from that time forward. Being in school shapes you the most as you’re there the majority of your teen life. Imagine if you were forced to take just core classes like math or science without the choice of being in classes you enjoy like art , photography, athletics and more. Without being able to have the choice of taking those type of classes there would be a lack of many aspects that would affect high schoolers for the rest of their lives.

Overall, being in subjects I liked has helped me out beyond compare as it has shown me what I like and don’t like, has gotten me out of the comfort zone and more. The people around have all agreed it helps with developing interpersonal skills, making an impact, scholarships, creating broader perspectives, higher self-esteem and many more reasons. So considering the fact that it is considering being taken away, is absolutely absurd because people do not realize just how much being in these type of classes help positively affect high school students.

The first major point that I’d like to discuss is the fact that the broadness of it all helps with the thinking and socialization of students mentally, physically, and even emotionally. The fact that you get to choose what you want to be in helps with determining what you like and don’t like for the future and helps with giving you an idea of what you might want to be in life. From being in photography to being a star football player. Everyone has different interest , therefore it is crucial in helping young, forming minds to let them do what they want to do academically. Personally, me being an athletic trainer for all four years of my high school career has helped me and blessed me beyond compare. Me being able to learn about injuries and treat them has given me a passion even stronger than before to be in the medical field and help people out of all ages.

If it weren’t for the older Athletic Trainers that has helped me out I wouldn’t be where I am today. Also, considering the fact that I’ve been involved in Interact and Spanish Club, Student Council, FCCLA, HOSA, and National Honors Society has all proved to help get me out of the comfort zone and continually help the community throughout many activities. From the beginning of high school to now I can speak for myself and many others on how they’ve changed positively because of the fact that we’ve all been in extra subjects that has interested us. We all hope one day to become something great and achieve more than we’ve done now , and with the help of these groups and activities it can greatly be accomplished. But without them we would be starting off with a major absence of knowledge in our life because without these groups we would have no idea what to do or where to go from high school.

The second major point is about just how much skills you can obtain by being in these different activity groups. Imagine if you were in absolutely nothing extracurricular , you weren’t involved in anything and just went to school. Some people can do that but the majority of the people like to be involved in at least one thing or another. Being in these groups can help you gain friends, gain many skills, a better personality and overall even a better life and perspective towards things.

For example, being in band has been proved that regularly playing an instrument changes the shape and power of the brain and may be used in therapy to improve cognitive skills. Also, being in athletics is proved that developing an interest in sports early on is ideal for helping kids improve their motor skills and foster a positive attitude towards teamwork. A leadership-oriented club, will help students to learn essential skills in management, while a debate or speech club will provide additional public speaking practice for students. Not to consider the fact that these are only some of the clubs that are offered they all undoubtedly prove that they all provide important resources for our minds and personalities. Learning interpersonal skills is super important as it helps you communicate and deal with the world around you.

Working hard and mastering new skills in a fun, relaxed – and sometimes competitive – setting allows you to be successful without the pressure of getting a good grade. Learning how to become passionate, have leadership, create an impact, learn how to manage your time, how to work hard and so much more is some of the great aspects you’ll most likely learn how to do during your time being involved within these types of groups. Each extracurricular you engage in provides you with another opportunity to expand your social profile, which will also come in handy when you’re looking for a job in the future. Overall, the outcomes of being in these groups are great when it comes to learning many new things, and to me getting to be able to do what you want while getting all of the good benefits it comes with, is definitely worth it.

Last but not least , the last subject I’m going to be talking about is just how great being involved within these groups are when it comes down to being helped financially, academically, scholarship wise and more. Being helped out financially can and will help out tremendously as it will help you achieve your goals and aspirations in life. College admission counselors look for how you spent your life throughout high school and what you’ve done to help out yourself and the community.

Being in these activities can help you out as they’re not focused really on what activity you’re involved in, moreas what it says about you as a person. These activites go beyond just doing the regular things and it stands out to colleges. “In fact, extracurricular activities and leadership account for about 30% of your application”. (CrimsonEducation) Being in these groups can help you get a head start on knowing information about the subject you want to major in or just enjoy. Active participation in organizations such as your drama club, science club or computer club can also be very beneficial when you are searching for scholarship opportunities to help pay for college.

Many academic and non-academic scholarship programs consider involvement in extracurricular activities in the selection process. There has been numerous of scholarships given to people involved in extracurricular activities due to their passion and interest within it and being helped out financially will give the student even more of a kick to keep going as they’ll know people want them to succeed. Overall, being helped out and having the satisfaction of knowing you had enough passion and dedication to succeed in these types of subjects will forever be meaningful.

Overtime, the people within the high school should add classes within the extracurricular core if anything, instead of taking them away. Also, these are only some of the reasons as to why everyone should keep these classes. There are many things that shapes and molds you throughout your child and teen years.
