This abstract contains general information and main ideas about the research. As an example, the research gives us types of participants which is their common features. This abstract represents a summary of the topic and major findings of the research. Give the necessary information about how data is collected in a sentence. Write the type of analysis in the experiment and what kind of developments are provided and also keywords are given. The abstract 100-150 words in length as it should be. Introduction First of all, this is a Qualitative analysis and this article journal published by International Journal of Economic Perspectives, 2017.
At the beginning of a paragraph, give us brief pieces of information about how learners use the foreign language outside the classroom. In the ıntroduction of the article mentioned that the historical overview. Who are to offer a solution about this issue is mentioned. According to the article ‘’It is one of the many challenges of the profession of EFL teachers to have inhibited students speak in the target language. To increase such students’ participation, their self-confidence must be raised first. Since drama gives students a chance to be somebody else, it can be an asset in serving this purpose.’’ Researches faced with some obstacles but they found a possible solution.
Researchers looking for some answers to these questions how to use mime and gestures, which are essential for an effective speech, how to raise their voice when they are asking a question and how to address their instructors and superiors or their friends. Students learned how to deal with these situations. According to the article, ‘’ Last but not the least reason is that once students get into play extracts they will have lots of topics to discuss. They will have to think about these topics and will be involved in discussions by expressing their feelings, emotions, and ideas. Reading aloud the play extracts will increase their fluency and simulation will increase accuracy.’’
Mondada and Doehler (2004) define language learning as “learning how to deal with contextualized, interactionally oriented discourse activities.” They believe “language learning is rooted in learner’s participation in organizing talk-in-interaction, structuring participation frameworks, configuring discourse tasks, interactionally defining identities, and becoming competent members of the community in which they participate” Play extracts set a good example for students to imitate. They provide the form of the conversation signaling that the next dialogue must be in this form. Therefore, students start by imitating first and continue with using the same linguistic form in a different situation. As Bygate (1995)’’ These quotations clearly explained the hypothesis and explained with examples supporting the hypothesis. Critique Given us a background knowledge about participants also each participant take a course called History of English Literature 1 and 2.
The goal of this study was to examine the impact of drama on undergraduate students of ELT during the History of English Literature 2 class which was designed with the inclusion of scriptwriting, acting out and staging a number of plays and also the aim of the study the following research question: What are the perspectives of undergraduate students on the impact of drama on their development?
Also, the participants of the age range were 20-22. Two of them were native speakers of English, seven were Turkish Cypriots with Turkish as their mother-tongue and six were Turkish. Except for the three native speakers of English, all participants were EFL learners. In the research process, intervention lasted sixteen weeks in total. In this research, this is an example of a dependent variable.’’ The participants were given the titles of some plays and novels, such as Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, The Merchant of Venice etc. The participants were asked to read all these books in one week and decide on one.
The second researcher who was the course instructor at the time observed them and right afterward wrote her reflections on her journal. The last but one week was for arranging the costumes, preparing and distributing the invitation cards and contacting the authorities for a hall to stage the plays on the campus. To be able to answer the posed research question, the current study was designed adopting an action research strategy. As put forth by Smith (2010), the core of action research in educational contexts is the systematic reflection of the teacher-as-researchers in the teaching profession to foster teaching effectiveness.
At the end of the term, all the participants were asked to write reflective essays evaluating the course.’’ There is an internal validity in this research because researchers know participants characteristics, mortality, inattention, attitude, and maturation. Data collected and the last one makes pre-test, post-test, and measure that the results. All these criteria almost same to all participants. All data based on classroom observation and An observation process that spans sixteen weeks also the inductive approach used in this research. At the end of the research participants quite happy with the intervention. They have an opportunity to compare courses. In these research students mentally and physically active because of this reason, they can speak their foreign language more confidently. Also, Most participants agreed that they have improved their writing and speaking skills. Writing skills facilitated and dependent on the fact that they should write scripts.
All non-native participants reported that their speaking skills improved. This research has a interrater reliability. There is no missing point in this research and I prefer to add something more varied experiments could be performed. for example, they could do this activity in roleplay form on a daily basis. I agree that sufficient information and data is provided to us. Conclusion In this experiment questions were answered and also the aim of the research materialize. By virtue of this research, participants use the target language much more confidently and fluently. They learned how to use new phrases and words in a meaningful context. Moreover, participants improve their social skills and personally developed. Because of these reasons play extracts bring school acquired knowledge and everyday application together. We can say that practicing with play extracts is beneficial for language learning and improvement. Also, researchers asked good questions and have followed the right way for the experiment.
