Claim

The Inherit claim to materialism is that matter is all that exist, or that only matter exists. I do not think that matter is the only thing that exist, there are many ways to show that many more things are involved in the earth besides matter. Some might not know what else is out there but with research you will find out there is more to the earth. An imprecise claim by some materialist would be that only materialist take matter seriously. According to some of the most known religions, (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) matter is important, they claim that on the last day of humanity, a messiah will come and raise everyone from the dead, and transform their bodies into something way to beautiful to describe. The religion systems from the third model take this extremely serious.

Evidence and Logical Support for Materialism

The Handmaiden of materialism has been able to explain most of reality, by proving it with science. They haven’t been able to explain it all, but they somewhat have everything covered. For instance, here are some myths that science has exposed; 1. Thunder, as we all know happens when there is either a severe thunderstorm or just raining a little more than it usually does. Thunder as we know is a result of lightning. Not created by the famous Thor. Next, we have what is known as lightning. Lightning is also something that occurs when there is any type of severe thunderstorm or a little more heavy rain. Even though, some people have believed that the eminent Zeus created lightning, he didn’t. Lightning is created when hot and cold air come together.

However, most materialist have admitted to one thing. That they can not explain ALL of reality. They can not tell you how the universe first began or how the DNA particles came about, but they are very determined to find out, and they will explain it to you, in the future.

Response to Challenges to Materialism

The challenges for materialism include:

The “Handmaiden” Challenge

a challenge which materialist believe that there is a scientific reason for everything on this earth. A lot of what we have on earth can be proven by scientist, there may be a lot that they have not yet discovered but they are determined to find out a lot of things. For instance, how the universe came to be. It is hard to believe that out of nowhere the universe just popped up into the solar system and was able to handle human life. It may not be now, or in A couple years but they will find out what happened. Even the highest scientist who believe this where to be true, where also believers of God. For example, Sir. Isaac Newton and Francis Collins.

The Consistency Challenge

Materialist who don’t believe in the existence of right and wrong. Which is kind of a tricky to believe in because how do we assume if something is wrong, if there is no right and wrong. One cannot simply exist by itself. For the fact that everything in this world is not right and not everything is wrong. For example, killing. Killing is always wrong. But there are times where it is just the right thing to do. As in if you have someone break into your house, and the only way to defend yourself is to shoot the person. They die, oh well they were in the wrong of being on someone else’s property; The wrong type pf killing would be, lets take in example the mass school shootings. The kids did nothing wrong to be in such a tragic event. One person or a couple may have did something to make the student mad, but to go in and shoot a whole school is awful. Especially when the kids are just in elementary.

The Reality Challenge

As Hawking’s claims, that the universe creating itself is just unrealistic, and contradicts the way the universe operates. For example, if the universe really did happen that way, wouldn’t we have stuff popping out of nowhere? Which we all know that isn’t true because not once has anybody walked down the street and something form right in front of them. I agree with this claim or theory that Hawking’s has put out there, simply because we do not have random things popping out of thin air. It just doesn’t make sense. We needed to have someone to create what is known as Earth. God could have done it, it would only make sense, but everything needs to be proven. If you don’t believe in God it is kind of hard to prove how something is just created before your time.

The Authority Challenge

If God does not exist, then what is your basis for claiming that man valuable and that has certain rights? If god didn’t exist, then how would every religion and every individual have their own version of what it was is to be known as God. We all have right and certain things we need to follow. God could have been through all of them and that is how he knows who and what gets what they deserve. We all grow up with certain rights and we don’t know a lot about it only that they have been passed down from generations before. Someone has to have gone through them so they could tell us how to deal with it. Everyone has been through the same thing.

The Epistemological Challenge

The greater challenge that materialist must respond concerns epistemology. If they are correct, then matter must be the only thing that exists. If that is the case, then why did matter come up with ideas as right and wrong? I personally do not believe that matter is the only thing that exist. Rights and wrong exist and that is what keeps the world sane. Not everybody agrees with what is right and wrong but that is the way it is. If they do something that everyone else considers wrong, them to could have a guilty conscience. Right and wrong obviously exists because everyone here on earth knows about it, if it did not exist we wouldn’t be on the subject right now. Everyone knows about it, but not every ones right and wrongs are the same. You may be doing something you think is the right thing but someone else sees it at being really bad. That’s just the way people are. We are really unpredictable.

The Freedom Challenge

If God exist then he exists. If God exists and he is an overbearing father, then why would I not just need to accept it and adjust my life to it? God exists. Everyone has their own beliefs, but as for me and my opinion in this paper is that he does. We all have something going on in our lives that has been put there for some apparent reason. We don’t know how but the only way to make it seem right is God. People say God doesn’t exists but yet they talk about him, they have Anti-Christ groups, some are Satan worshipers. If he didn’t exists at all would we even be talking about him? Without God you couldn’t really have what you all know as Satan. There would be no heaven and hell. Just like you can’t have right without wrong, you can not have God with out the Devil.
