People have been dumping garbage into the ocean for many years but if we don’t stop it soon it will become a greater problem than it already is. There are a lot of countries that allow their people to throw stuff into the ocean and that is causing a major problem. Countries like China are one of the biggest countries to throw trash into the ocean. The trash isn’t just affecting the marine life; it’s also affecting people in pretty major ways.
One-way people are getting affected is we eat fish and the fish eat the trash making us eat it as well and probably getting a disease . If we don’t stop the trash soon it will change the world in big ways like the fact that there will be more trash than fish if we don’t stop it soon. So what I think is that if we don’t stop the trash this could be one of the few ways humans can slowly kill themselves to extinction.
There are a lot of large contributing countries that allow their citizens to throw trash into the ocean and this is the main reason why the ocean has so much trash in it. China is the biggest contributor for throwing trash into the ocean because they throw 3.53 million metric tons of trash into the ocean a year. Indonesia is also a big contributor by throwing 1.29 million metric tons of trash into the ocean which puts it in the second place in the biggest contributors which is not a good thing at all.

Philippines is the third biggest contributor wasting 0.75 million metric tons of garage into the ocean which is an easy way to fix this problem with all these three, and that is to make a law that you can’t throw anything into the ocean or you’ll get fined if you get caught throwing anything into the sea.
The trash is also affecting people in very major ways that could lead to people actually dying. The trash is affecting the water we drink from because the oceans are linked to some rivers that we get our drinking water from and it causes the trash to flow into the rivers. This will make us have to find new ways to get drinkable water if all of the water gets contaminated it will cost a lot to decontaminate all of it so we can have normal water again.
Fish are also getting affected by the trash because they eat the trash and we eat the fish which can make us very sick by accidentally eating a piece of plastic or metal which can maybe kill us. The trash is also killing marine plants which is not a good thing at all considering that marine plants give us 70 percent of the oxygen we breathe and if we kill them we will kill almost all our oxygen with them.
Major things can happen if we don’t stop the trash form going into the ocean, major things that can also lead to our extinction. Every year 1 ton of trash is dumped into the ocean for every three tons of fish, and that’s a lot of trash that is covering the ocean. The ocean is a reason we get oxygen and if we keep putting trash there could be some trash that affect it and can lead to some toxic gas we can inhale if were not careful.
By the year 2050 if the world doesn’t decide to do anything about this there will be more trash in the sea than fish making it a lot harder to find fish and it can lead to a lot of countries going into starvation. The thing that can also lead counties into starvation is the fact that 100 million marine animals die because of the trash also making it harder to find food.
So if we don’t stop this soon it can lead into the extinction of many animals including us if were not very careful. The water supplies will run low and same with the food supplies, they will all go down if we don’t stop trash from going into the ocean. I think human populations going up will also make the trash increase in the ocean making it harder every year to clean it up. A lot of land animals will also probably go extinct because of the mistake we’ve made by putting a lot of trash into the sea. We need to be very careful and every country needs to gather up to discuss a solution to this major problem .
