‘Teachers’ Day is celebrated to stamp regard and appreciation towards the teachers, instructors, and mentors. Educators are the architects of society. They shape the fate of new ages. The instructor enjoys a consecrated status in almost every area of the world. In Islam teaching is known as the prophet’s profession. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) has expressed, ‘that I have been sent or deputed on earth to teach and educate the mankind/people’

In the book of Nahjul-Balagh Imam Ali (a.s) has said about teacher/guardians’ as, ‘Don’t attempt the sharpness of your tongue against Him who enabled you to talk, nor the expert eloquence of your talking against him who set you on the correct way’.

Hazrat Ali (a.s) has also said,’ I turn into the captive of a man who ever taught me even a single word; it is now up to him whether he keeps me slave or given me a chance to free’.

Indeed, even much before the coming of Islam between the 1500 to 200 BC, in the subcontinent, Manusmriti, the law book of social standards of the Hindus was composed. The book instructs its readers to feature humanity before the teacher. It guides the students to touch the feet of their teachers before the exercise starts, to abstain from sitting on their seats and to stand up to meet and welcome them each time with greetings they enter the classroom.

Teachers have enduring effects on the lives of their students, and great educators inspire students toward greatness. Amid British rule in India, in 1922, the British governor of Punjab proposed to the British Crown that Dr Sir Mohammad Iqbal be knighted in acknowledgement of his scholarly accomplishments, Dr Sir Mohammad Iqbal declined to acknowledge the title.

He rather demanded that his educator viz Mir Hasan ought to be granted the title. At the point when the senator clarified that Mir Hassan had not composed any extraordinary books; Dr Sir Mohammad Iqbal answered that he, Iqbal, was the book Mir Hasan had created. At long last, Mir Hasan was bestowed with the title of Shams al-Ulama (Sun of Scholars).

This is the way the incredible individuals regard their teachers and they feel it the greatest respect in the event that somebody calls them teachers. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam; an Indian researcher who additionally was the eleventh president of India says, “Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, calibre, and future of an individual. If people remember me as a good teacher, that will be the biggest honour for me.”

Justin Trudeau says, ‘I am a teacher. It’s how I define myself. A good teacher isn’t someone who gives the answers out to their kids but is under honouring of needs and challenges and gives tools to help other people succeed. That’s the way I see myself, so whatever it is that I will do eventually after politics, it’ll have to do a lot with teaching.’

The profession of teaching, therefore, deserves the highest level of respect and reverence in society. Teachers open all the shackles of ignorance, they instil the love of learning in the students, they awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge, they seduce smart people into thinking they can’t lose, they affect eternity and above all, they build great nations.

However, gone are the days when parents, students, and society demonstrated regard and appreciation toward the educators. In the present situation, any individual joining this sacred profession for passing his abilities to shape the posterity is working under enormous pressure. There are different elements responsible for it. Teachers work mostly for two reasons. In the first place, they are helping to shape the destiny of the youngsters, and second, they are regarded for doing as such. Be that as it may, in the advanced education system, we discover both of these have reduced as it were. In any case, the parents and guardians are more responsible for destroying the status of the teacher.

Threatening and authoritative conduct of the teacher towards the educators have developed to an alarming level. This kind of pressure constraints on the teachers to work as per the parents’ will. It is also the parents’ obligation to pay continuous and careful consideration to their children’s performance. Instead, they pressurise the teachers to support their wards in the classroom, at the occasion of examinations and at the season of preparing results. A few parents even say to their kids the educators get the pay, government expenses or fee. Such proclamations may make support her resemble a servant in the youngster’s incipient mind.

A lot of desire expectations on instructors is another issue. It isn’t conceivable that every one of the students in a classroom has a similar level of intelligence. Rather than examining with the educators to defeat the learning challenges looked by their wards, the parents point the finger at instructors for the students’ poor execution in tests and exams. The most regular gripe originating from the parents’ side is that the educators don’t give enough consideration regarding their ward.

Even if the wards misbehave at home, the parents considered instructors in charge of it. They overlook the way that the home condition is to a great extent responsible for the wards’ conduct. Parents ought to acknowledge it and let it be known that a tyke can grow terrible conduct by simply watching their very own parents’ conduct and not that of the instructors.

There are numerous cases where we discover the teachers crying with tears. One the one side, they are caught by the children who don’t recognize what they are doing and their parents are supporting them while on the other side again, the authoritative grind makes their frustration more critical and insurmountable. This, at last, keeps them from admonishing their students to discipline them.

I am not in favour of teachers grounding students, but sometimes, the situation demands negative reinforcement than to give students a free hand. In the words of psychologist Skinner,’ A bit of negative reinforcement, can go a long way in ensuring that children behave themselves’. By negative reinforcement, the parents shall know that the teachers are actually removing something unfavourable in their wards in order to encourage a good behaviour.

Situation whatever may be, “Teachers’ Day” is still celebrated in many countries of the world with great enthusiasm as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. In India, Argentina, Nepal, Albania, Malaysia, Singapore, and in many other countries; it becomes custom for students to send bouquets, text messages, and small gifts to their teachers. School administration arrange programs and seminars to appreciate teachers’ efforts and honour their hard work.

India celebrates Teacher’s Day on 5th September which is the birth anniversary of a great teacher Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrashnan, who was a staunch believer in education, the President of India and above all, a teacher. When some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, he said, ‘instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege, if 5th September is observed as Teachers’ day’. From then onwards, the 5th of September has been observed as Teachers Day, in India.

World Teachers’ Day or International Teachers’ Day, is held every year on October 5 since 1994. ‘Empowering Teachers” was the theme of World Teachers’ Day in 2017. It is celebrated all around the world since 1994 after the UNESCO/ILO recommendations concerning the status of a teacher.
