The noise level in the office is usually quite large, which affects the concentration of employees and reduces their performance. Therefore, wise leaders are trying as much as possible to reduce the level of this noise and provide employees with comfortable conditions for fruitful work.

If your goal is not only zoning the office space with increased daylight, but also damping working noises, you need to understand that frame and soundproof glass partitions give a completely different effect. Features of soundproof partitions are:

  • Frame glass partition walls knock down the intensity of the sound wave, reflecting it, in other words, lower the noise level without removing it.
  • Sound-absorbing partitions also reduce the saturation of the sound wave, reducing noise to a more or less comfortable indicator.
  • Soundproof partitions completely stop external noise – both arising outdoors and internal, without letting them out.

If earlier this could be done in only one way – using capital construction, today the arrangement of the office is greatly simplified by light and compact office partitions. At the same time, the important question is whether they give the proper level of sound insulation? Let’s look at the soundproofing capabilities of different types of office partitions.

We will not consider mobile partitions, as they are not designed to provide sound insulation. And from the stationary, all-glass, frame and combined can be distinguished.

All-glass partitions with proper installation provide one of the highest levels of sound insulation. This is achieved through the use of special triplex glass, which consists of several glass sheets glued together with a special film. In addition, noise protection provides high-quality sealing of the joints of the partition with the wall and floor.

Frame partitions consist of a frame (usually aluminum) and a filling. Filling can be different – glass sheets, sheets of chipboard, plastic, MDF, etc. Partitions with glass filling will have good sound protection, but only if the seal is correctly installed and installed. Where wood-based panels fill, the sound insulation level will depend on whether it is being installed.

Typically, the hollow space of the partitions from wood boards is filled with insulation, which also serves as soundproofing material. Basically, the level of noise protection depends on its properties.

The least soundproofed are the partitions with plastic filling.

Combined partitions are the same frame, just with combined filling. So, the upper part can be made of glass, and the bottom – of chipboard panels. In the case of combined partitions, the sound insulation level depends on the selected content.

Partitions for offices absorbing sounds can be frame (glass sheets are divided into sections and framed in reinforcing restrictions) and all-glass. All-glass partitions look more beautiful, they visually increase the office and unload the space, but their profile, also made almost of glass, reduces sound-canceling performance. The maximum sound reduction you can achieve is 33 decibels.

Does this mean that all-glass linens are not suitable for an office in which many people work? Not at all. You can resort to the following tricks:

  1. Install double glazing.
  2. If we are talking about a residential interior, you can install a double-glazed window with gas filling.
  3. Install soundproof seal using special fittings.

The installation of frame partitions with soundproof fiberglass and opaque frame made of chipboard will give a more reliable result in sound absorption, or – a more economical option – made of plastic, etc.
