The Few the Proud, the official slogan of the United States Marine Corps. There is a meaning behind that slogan, it is not rust propaganda being tossed around by the government. lt means that there are very few people In the Marines, though they are small In numbers. their patriotism and pride got them to be the most feared and respected military branches in the world That is llVll’lg proof that sheer numbers of people cannot make a strong military. but patriotism, a drive to succeed, and morality can. Unfortunately, not everyone has those characteristics and not everyone is military material. Therefore. requiring all high school graduates to serve two years in the military would not make our military, but it would break it. When people think about the military, they think about young people who are well disciplined, patriotic people who have pride in their country. But lor one moment, think about the consequences that the military and our country would sufler if all high school graduates were to enter the military.
It is safe to say that a good sized portion of our nation consists of slackers, leeches, and people who just do not care, Mixing these people in With the moral outstanding citizens of our military would have a negative effect, Some people might think that military time Will shape these people into the ideal citizen, butl believe that it Will only make them hate our country even more and put more negativity into our society. Whether the governments intentions were to make our people more moral, or to make our military a huge superpower, both intentions would fail miserably. If you want a good reason why making military time a requirement, look at the Taliban. Another large thing gets in the way oi the government launching this plan. and it is the all-mighty dollar. Asmall percentage of our high school graduates enroll into the many military branches, and taxpayers pay large amounts of money to fund it.
Military bases are pretty much lilled and there are plenty of serVicemen and Women to fulfill all the jobs necessary to keep our military in tiprtop condition. Therefore, haVing all of these people in the military would be useless Paying for our current military is very expensive, but imagine ilwe had to take care of all graduation students instead of a small percentage of them, Food, clothing, training, more military bases, more equipment, and the list goes on, The military would also be expected to pay all these kids through college. And that amount of money is Just inconceivable. This would create a huge burden on the United States economy. Space and money would torbid Military requirements from ever happening and our people just would not accept it.
The military was meant for people willing to sacrifice their time for a country that they love and will fight for, It is not meant to he an expectation. Pride and patriotism is what makes any military strong, not how many people are in it. Making it a requirement would make people angw and that is the last thing our country needs. It is fine the Way it is, We have a Well rounded military already. And when taxes skyrocket, people Will be even more angry, so lets keep our nation under control, lets not make the military a chore, lets keep it as something to be proud ol.
