I’ve had several negative learning experiences but many positive ones that I have enjoyed and benefited from greatly. One of my learning experiences was to write my first poem in my English class. I found it very hard at first but I figured out what to write about. I didn’t know much about writing poems. English class was fun in many ways. Until this day, I remember the teacher telling us we had to write a play followed by a poem and then perform them in front of the entire class. That was very nerve wracking because it was in front of my peers. At least the creative side came out of me. I was sitting in my room trying to figure out how to write a poem next thing you know, I ended up flowing through the poem.

I then thought to myself, this is very fun and unique in a way. From that day on, I found my passion in writing poems because there aren’t any restrictions. I then decided to write many poems with emotions in order to connect with my audience. I have read my poems in front of classmates and got really good feedback. Some of my peers had a very emotional response from my poems. I like to incorporate all the difficulties I’m going through or dealing with in my poems. That was a good day for me because I got to put so much emotion into what has been going on or how I’ve been feeling lately. I feel that many people can learn from my experience and find their own personal interests whether it is through writing or other hobbies/activities that can be therapeutic for them.

My negative experience has to be taking tests. That’s one of my weaknesses I just really dislike taking tests because I’m not good at them. I mainly had math tests which I just don’t process the way the teacher is teaching us. I would have to continually ask the teacher how to do the problems. My teacher would just be like this is how you do it like she expects me to know how to do it without explaining it sometimes. The way I learn you will have to go step by step with me breaking the problem down so I can understand. She didn’t know why I wasn’t understanding the problem when she would tell me how to solve the problem. Not only that, I seem to forget everything during the test and not know how to do any of the problems.

So I would sit there the whole class period with nothing on my paper. But then I just put random things on my paper to try and at least aim to get a 50%. I know I set my standards in tests very low it’s because I’m never confident in taking a test. I get overwhelmed when I hear that we have a test coming up. It’s one of the worst thing is not knowing how to take test because in society today you have to take tests for many things. I feel that I should spend a lot more time to understand everything that will be on the test. By doing that I may have better results taking tests and I’ll start to be more confident and not so fragile during tests.
