My initial perception of poetry was that I did not like it. I did poetry in seventh and eighth grade and I have always found it difficult and extremely hard to write. In grade school, we wrote all kinds of poetry and I found all of it boring and difficult. I was never very good at it and I never did very well on it. My initial perception of my ability to write poetry was that I couldn’t write poetry and I did not want to be able to write poetry. I always found it very dull, meaningless, and boring. I could never get them to rhyme or even make them make sense.

Poetry was difficult and I never had an interest in poetry. My favorite type of poetry was the haiku poem I enjoyed the haiku poem because I thought that it was easy to write and that it was easier to comprehend. It was very easy to make the pome about nature and it was easy to make the point of the poem easily understandable. It was also surprising how much meaning there was in the poem beneath what was on paper. The haiku pome was easy to write but it also made me think abought what it was really saying. For me, my least favorite poem was definitely the catalog poem. I was not a fan of the catalog poem because it was long, hard to put together, and hard to make it rhyme.

Another reason I was not a fan of the catalog poem was that I thought I was finally getting close to done then I realized that it wasn’t rhyming at all and that it was not making much sense at all. I felt like I could have gotten my point across much quicker and easier. Also, I liked the setup of the haiku poem with the five seven five syllable set up and I like the three lines because it was shorter I believe that the haiku poem was definitely my strongest and best-written poem my haiku poem was called Still Water. I like the setup of the haiku poem it is easy to set up and to make to poem flow I like that the poem is short and it’s easy to get your point across faster.

I like the format of the haiku poem because it is short and easier to comprehend I like that it does not have to rhyme but I really like that the poem is three lines and that the first line is five syllables the second seven that the last five one five. I feel like because there are fewer words there’s more meaning because it’s less to take in and you can think about more. I think the best part of my poem was the part that says “Colorful fish swimming freely” I think it’s the best part because it makes you feel calm and relaxed my poem also talks about clear crisp water which is also calm and relaxing. It takes abought cattails and lily pads which is calm and peaceful.

All in all, I really liked the haiku poem, I really like the length and stile My catalog poem was ddefinitelymy worst poem it was titled Student Works. I was not vvery satisfied with my work on tthe catalog I had a real hard time making it rhyme and getting the style of the poem to match that of Maya Angelou’s Women Work poem which we were supposed to make ours like. I found it especially hard to get the rhyme scheme right and to make the poem flow correctly and to not make the poem sound odd and choppy.

All in all, I was not a fan of the catalog poem. I didn’t like the setup of the catalog poem and I did not like the format of the catalog poem. To prepare to write a poem I would sit on my bed and first I would put in my headphones and I would turn on my playlist and begin to brainstorm a topic and try to get a set topic. Then from there, I build off that topic and being to make my first few lines then if the pome has a specif rhyme scheme or syllable count per line. For a haiku poem I write a line then I count the number of syllables if it doesn’t match what it is supposed to be I try to find words that mean the same thing as the words in my line but with less or more syllables. The I do that for all three lines of my poem. Sometimes it is hard to do and doesn’t always work and sometimes I have to change my whole line and come up with a new line.

If I am writing a catalog poem I will figure out a topic then build off it I will write a few lines then start thinking of the topic of the next line of my poem and I try to think of rhyming words to go with the wors in the previous lines and then I do that for all of the lines. Just lie with the haiku poem sometimes my method does not work and then I have to retry the line or lines of the poem. My opinion of poetry is a little different now that we have written many different kinds of poems. Poetry is still not really my cup of tea but I have learned different things about different kinds of poetry like extended metaphor, catalog, and haiku poems. I didn’t like the setup, rhyme scheme, or format of the catalog poem.

The extended metaphor was my second favorite poem to write I liked that it was one big metaphor that you really had to think about and that really had a deeper meaning then what’s on the surface and it taught me that all writing has a lot of meaning behind it when before I just thought it was words on paper. Then my there was the haiku which I like the setup of the haiku poem it is easy to set up and to make to poem flow I like that the poem is short and it’s easy to get your point across faster. I like the format of the haiku poem because it is short and easier to comprehend I like that it does not have to rhyme but I really like that the poem is three lines and that the first line is five syllables the second seven that the last five one five.
