“Smell Like a man, man.” The advertisement conveys a strong message about a strong personality where a man needs not only to be attractive but also to be confident by smelling like a real man. The ad graphically shows a very handsome man in an oasis setting, ridding on a white horse. By using an attractive fit male, it gives the product an image that men want.

The ad almost shouts out the idea that if you use the product you can be just as attractive as the man on the add. This appeals especially to men. What man wouldn’t want to be perfect? But also, to women, not only because of the attractiveness but just the thought that a perfect man can exist. This ad contains equal amounts of ethos, logos, and pathos to sell itself to those out there who wish to be as masculine as possible.

The man on the ad helps strengthen old’s spices credibility. Which brings us into ethos. His name is Isaiah Mustafah. He is a well-known actor and leads the audience to believe that if they use this product they can be as attractive and popular as he is.

Following ethos is logos. We see the add appeal to our reason through several underlaying messages that rely heavily on what is desired by men and women. This advertisement uses logic to sell something other than body wash: sex. Men know women love masculinity. Old spice is saying their body wash can enhance masculinity, making you more pleasing to women. Which also makes a happier man.

In terms of pathos, the Old Spice add keeps its simple. The commercial grabs at the consumer’s emotions through attraction. The idea of utopia is apparent. In the ad there is perfect scenery and a perfect man. When the audience sees this, it hooks their attention. It convinces them that if they just buy this product, they can be a better man and look and smell as good as the men on TV.

The Old Spice ad is successful because it makes a good impression on people and makes the audience believe that smelling good can be attractive. The advertisement carefully uses sex appeal, making it attractive for both men and women. Mixing the right amount of humor makes it stand out because of its no offensive.

Old Spice’s appeal to women makes men want to look and smells like a real man. The advertisement presents an ideal man as good looking, masculine and romantic. Any advertisement that arouses people’s emotions and people want to watch and remember their products can be termed as a successful advertisement.
