There are nine ideas about language according to the paper that Harvey A. Daniels has been written. It is constructed to divided how language is being learned and constructed by the people nowadays.

Oral language is natural to all of us because language is consider as one of the specific traits of human being. Children learn to talk because it is their nature to talk not because their parents teach them. Children can easily imitate the language that they heard so I agree with the idea that children learn their native language without further instructions to do so. Speaking a language is based on the community that they’re exposed.

I believe that learning language is a step by step process or I must say that it is a life long process. We must have learn the basic general rule to construct a word, sentence, phrase, and a paragraph. School children have already learned the basic majority rule of language as well as native language. As time goes by children will just add some to the learnings that was been teach in schools. Human language is an important sense so as grammar. It is been given that language requires a complex set of choices . So the countless rules must be teach to the children at a very young age because when this happen it will be very easy to the children to formulate a sentence a phrase and a paragraph because he or she learn the rules that is needed.

Larynx is a part of our body that is responsible of the pitch and volume which is essential to phonation. In order for you to say the words that you want to say you need to use your larynx to enunciate the words. Enunciation is important to language because if you fail to enunciate the words the meaning will change or worst you can’t be understood by others. It will become a barrier to communication if you cannot fully enunciate the word . For example to the performers especially to the singers they must enunciate the words well for the audience to feel and to understand the story that they are telling by singing.

Dropping “g”s is one of the most common examples of poor enunciation for example “going” you shouldn’t say the g letter but it must be a silent g. In vocabulary and grammar these two are very important in the context of language because you need to expound your vocabulary because it will add more to your knowledge as a student and as a person and grammar must be well constructed because if you fail to construct a grammar the meaning of a sentence will change. Vocabulary and grammar can be combined together for a expanded knowledge about language according to Susan Hunston, Gill Francis, Elizabeth Manning ELT journal 51 (3), 208-216, (1997) all words can be shown to have patterns, and words which have the same pattern tend to share aspects of meaning.

Dialect is a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group. It has a certain set of lexical or have a independent meaning, and phonological and grammatical. In The Oxford Reference Guide to English Morphology, 2013), Bauer, Lieber, and Plag define phonological word as ‘the domain within which certain or prosodic rules apply, for example, rules of syllabication or stress placement. Phonological words may be smaller or larger than grammatical or orthographic words.’ meaning that dialect has its own characteristics and has its own meaning. In the Philippines we have 120 to 187 languages and dialects. These dialects are being spoken in a certain community in the Philippines. Indigenous people mostly use these dialects. For example the word “wash” it is “hugas” in Cebuano and Tagalog. But the difference is Cebuano can use a couple terms depending on which things is being washed. So based on my observation there is no a lot of difference as long as you know the uses of the words there will be no bigger problems when it comes to dialects.

Marthin Joss recognized different language styles in his book the five clocks(1967), there are five language styles namely : Frozen style or oratorical style, Formal Style or Deliberative Style, Consultative Style, Casual Style and Intimate Style. In the scenario there are husband and a wife who are talking with each other in this scenario I must say that they use the style of intimate by Marthin Joss (1967) because when a couple addresses each other a clingy callings they are using the intimate style. This style is use only for our loved ones. Frozen is a style that I can relate to an author who is giving a statement or an advice to a reader but the reader can’t answer back because it is based on the book the he or she reading.

Consultative style is a commonly used in interviews. And lastly the casual style it is the most common style that I must say that all of us are using because you can use it with your friends, peers, classmates and workers but use some formal words when you are talking to your superiors. Jargon is a specialized term use to convey hidden meaning. For example we don’t usually encounter the words “Code Eight” if you are just like me a normal citizen you must say that code eight is code eight the actual words are its meaning but it is a big no for the law enforcement officers and professionals because code eight means “officer needs help immediately”.

I believe that the only constant in this world is change , all of us will change. Just like in language, language can also change because developing is continuous and even changing of words is happening up to now . Homonyms, semantics, pragmatics plays a big role in language. But the sad thing is that it became more complicated for us because some words are same sounds different spellings and different meanings. It can lead to confusion because most people are into spoken not into written that’s why this idea that language change is normal is leading to people to misunderstanding. For example the word “three” when I was in grade school my teacher said that “draw a tree” the idea that came up to my mind that time is the number three not the plant tree . So I draw number three and my teacher gave me a low score because I’m not following the instructions that she gave to us. So I conclude that changing in language can lead to misunderstanding.

I agree in the line at the article that “we make language more than language makes us” because language is part of our daily lives as Henry Lee Smith (2011) said that “language is what makes us human beings” as a person we use language everyday we use our minds to create such words for a good communication with one another and in that way we make the language. Language can be vary in every society. It can be important to some but a waste of time to others, it depends to the people but mostly important that we should realize that language is not just a part of a culture and its society but it is a part of human beings.

Our native languages is from our parents and also from the community we are exposed in. We must value the judgements because we can use it as an improvement in some points of our lives. We just have to master the language and as a person it is okay to be descriptivist, you’ll be able to understand one another based on how language is naturally spoken or written but as an educator you must be a prescriptivist, for example me I will become an educator someday I will teach, but how can I teach if I don’t master the lesson that I am discussing. Just like in English, I need to study and teach children a perfect grammar and right pronunciation. It is not okay that you only understood by others but most importantly you must learn how to construct a perfect grammar and say right pronunciation because it is for your growth as a person and as a professionals someday.

Language is based on the systems and oral languages, speaker use some speech and styles in response to the changing of social setting. Language must be creative for example as a writer you must catch the mood of you audiences but how can you catch their moods if you won’t change the style of writing that you use in your books and in your articles. Audiences has a wide range so as an author you need to compose writings based on the occasions and the audiences that is in your market.

For the conclusion, based on what I read about the nine ideas of language I can confidently say that language is what makes us human beings it shapes the society and the people who use it as a medium of communication. Language is important to us future educators especially to those who are taking the course of major in English because we need to study how the language is being constructed, how to use it and how to pronounce it well in order for us to teach this to our future students. Language can be vary among the groups but the most important is language is existing because of the people who are speaking and using it. I recommend that we must focus on the language because as I said language is our medium of communication. Language must be teach to the children at their young age, for them to improve their skills in communicating and for them to see the bigger picture on how beautiful language is even if changes in language infuses variation to humanity.
