According to Lisa Cash Hanson a scholar and CEO defines leadership as, “the ability to guide others without force into a direction or decision that leaves them still feeling empowered and accomplished.” (Adeoye, 2015) A leader will run ahead of you to make clear of the obstacles ahead, walk by theor side and even sometimes she is ready to crawl along with you, just to make sure you reach your destination. If I ever see someone as a leader in my life, is my mother. Her name is Tashi Dolker. She is the light in the darkest day, a guiding star and an advisor. She gives me inspiration, motivation and strength in my life, to never back down. She falls under the behavioral theory because she is concerned with her families and the household chores. She is my adviser, model and a friend. I envy her in so many ways, for she is the reason, I make sure to take chances in every opportunity. I aspire to become a guide, mentor and leader like her.
The leadership skills that my mother possess are, she thinks strategically, effective communication skills will help to inspire, persuade, and encourage her members and try to solve problem. The leadership behaviors’ are she knows and does the right thing and she is concern with “we” than “me”. She learns from experience and others, but she doesn’t follow. The leadership trait are she is emotionally stable with the change in working environment, people oriented where she works in a team and enjoy the success together and self managing where she can able to maintain self control, times, attention and emotions.
The best leadership skill that I found in my mother is problem solving who deals with family issues, who has got answers to all the questions and solution to all the problems. No matter how strong the problems are, she stands strong and prepared to tear it apart. The best leadership behavior that my mother has is she always thinks about us than herself. There isn’t a day where she would eat before us or sleep before us rather she would make sure we eat and sleep well first.
The leadership trait that she has is self managing where she never gets tired of seeing her children smile that she would walk thousand miles just to get their favorite toy. And there isn’t a single thing she can’t manage even in the darkest hour. She can get stars if it’s necessary after all working a day without rest outside and also doing our laundries at night isn’t less. She gets tired but she can’t rest because she needs to prepare things for tomorrow and she does that perfectly. So there isn’t any leader who is as wise as my mother for me.
Situational leadership style is flexible where a leader can change their leadership style with working environment and needs of their members. A leader must be able to move from one leadership style to another to fit in the level of his members. My mother is a situational leader because she helped people according to the situation. For example, she would offer food to those who are hungry and provide a home if they have no place to stay.
My mother as a leader, she makes the necessary decisions and make us aware of her decision. She makes the roles and objectives where we have to do whatever she told. My mother as a selling leader, she makes roles and objectives but she accepts the opinions and suggestions from us. My mother as a participating leader, she gives authority to other members to make decisions but still she provides some direction and feedbacks. My mother as delegating leader provides minimum guidance and gives us responsibility to make our own decision.
The best leadership style that suits me is quiet leader because I don’t tell people what to do. I don’t force them if they are not willing to do. By doing this, I could be able to encourage or motivates them. For example, when we get group works, some members do not participate in discussion neither contribute their ideas. In that case, I don’t force them to do the work and those members who are interested come together and share the ideas among each others. I listen to their ideas and suggestions. While doing this, other members feel guilty and end up involving in discussions.
