Japan is located in the continent of Asia. It has been a country for 71 years, and is known for being clean and having nice citizens. Japan’s government, education system, and culture are much different from others.

To begin with, Japan’s government. Rather than a president it has an emperor. Japan has a constitutional monarchy. It has three branches in government these being executive, legislature and judiciary. The executive branch is the prime minister and the Cabinet of Ministers. The legislative branch is the House of Representatives and House of Councils. The Judiciary branch is the supreme court, high courts, district courts, family courts, and summary courts. Japan’s emperor is Akihito, but he does not influence the government. The prime minister is the head of government in Japan.

To continue, Japan’s education system. Children in Japan go to school nine to twelve years in Japan. They study many of the same things the United States study such as science, math, social studies, physical education, and english. Elementary school is six years, junior high three years, and highschool three years. High School is not mandatory in Japan, and is optional by students. School for kids start when they are six years old, and are considered finished with school after middle school. Higher education are universities, junior college, colleges of technology, special training schools, and community colleges. The literacy rate, or the rate of people who can read or write, in Japan is 99% for both men and women.

Finally, Japanese culture. The Japanese culture consists of many traditions they celebrate. A tradition in Japan is Obon, the festival of the dead. The first day of Obon people light up lanterns, and visit loved ones graves to bring the spirits of their loved ones back. On the last day people dance at a big gathering, and taiko drums are played. In Japan they practice Buddhism and Shintoism. Popular foods in Japan are fish, pickled vegetables, sashimi, tempura, sukiyaki, and sushi.

Typical meals in Japan are very alike to each other. A breakfasts meals could be rice, fish, miso soup, and japanese pickles, or natto, soybeans and grass bacillus. Lunch meals would be noodles, such as ramen or udon, or rice, miso soup, pickled vegetables, and a type of protein. Dinner would be rice, soup, and three sides. Some sides could be sushi, soba, and chicken/protein. Another important piece of culture is language. Languages used in Japan is Japanese, Korean, and Japanese sign language. The official language of Japan is Japanese.

In conclusion, Japan has very unique aspects to its culture, education system, and government. It is different for many reasons including things such as it’s constitutional monarchy to having highschool optional.
