If anybody ever wanted to achieve a successful career in their life, they would need knowledge and confidence, as well as social, technical, and academic skills. There are many ways to be able to have these traits and skills, but the best way of them all is by going to college and receiving a college education. The importance of a college education can be determined by the role it plays in a person’s life. Students should really consider if it’s really the right choice to go on to a post-secondary education, by asking the following, “What will be the ending result?” and “How will the experience impact my life?” These questions are crucial to ask oneself to make sure if college is the best choice for them in order for them to acquire a successful career after they have graduated from high school.

The importance of a college education is highly valuable in today’s society, due to the fact that a person with a college education makes much more money than someone with just a high school education. In the article “Education Pays”, it states “Individuals with higher education levels earn more, pay more taxes, and are more likely than others to be employed and to have job benefits such as retirement and health insurance” (College Board). This is stating the fact that college graduates will make more money than someone who didn’t attend college.

They will be able to pay taxes, be employed, have job perks, and will most likely to have insurance. Their lives will be in a way much easier than someone without a college education. Some people may think that, “College will leave a person in debt for years and they wouldn’t be able to pay it off.” While the first part is true that College could leave in someone debt, but that education that you have received will help land you in a good paying job and in time you would be able to pay off those debts, then will have quite large yearly income.

A famous quote from Malcolm X that helps support the fact that an education is important to those who want to change the world and be successful in life. He said this quote at his speech at the Founding Rally of the Organization of Afro-American Unity in June of 1964. Malcolm X is known for his involvement in the Civil Rights movement and emerged as the leading spokesperson for black separatism. He said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” (Malcolm X).

Education is a way out of a bad life and people should take any chance they get in life to be able to achieve one’s dream. Also, Some may think “Education is thought to be a way of being able to do something with your life, but most people do not tend to think of the accomplishments that come from people who are unable to receive an education.” While some successful people didn’t attend a college they are very few compared to the many who are successful with a college degree. Another great quote comes from The Springboard textbook in a Informational Text called “Education Still Pays” that backs up the fact that a college education is much better than a high school education.

The Informational Text states,“Workers with less education than a high school diploma had the highest unemployment (11 percent), while those with a doctoral degree had the lowest rate(2.2 percent)” (BLS, 66). These are statistics on the unemployment rates and the relationship it has with the level of education. It seems as though the higher the level of education the lower the unemployment rate is and the lower the level of education the higher the unemployment rate. So, it is a good decision to get a high level of education to ensure that you will also be able to get a job.

It is obvious now that a college degree is beneficial for someone in our society. It may have some some cons, but it would have much more pros to have a college education. People with a high level of education get paid more than those who don’t. College graduates will be able to stand out more for job position than someone with a high school diploma and have skills that they have obtain from college. The people who decided to get a post-secondary education are people who want to make an influence on the world in some kind of way. So if anybody ever wanted to get a highly successful occupation that will pay highly, to get a nice comfortable life than a college education may be the best way for you to be able to achieve that goal.
