Hi. Today I’m going to be talking about knife crime and the impact that it has on society. Lately knife crime has been on the rise and has been especially popular with teenagers. There could be many reasons for this, but the main reasons are: family problems, influence from people in school who are involved in gangs, sometimes just for some teenagers to fit in so they join gangs and hang around with bad influences, and some teenagers think that by killing someone and having a knife gains them power. However carrying a knife is illegal in the UK.
Some people may say that they carry it for some reasons such as:
- Self Defence
- Peer Pressure
- Fear
- To Gain Respect,Power Or Control
As you may know people who carry a knife always don’t intend to use it all the time but if you get caught carrying a knife, there can be some serious consequences. Also if you get into a row or argument and you are carrying a knife, you could be provoked into using it against someone and hurting them.
Knife crime is becoming so common now that it can affect anyone and not just people in gangs, but people who may be innocent and trying to help prevent an argument, police officers who may be dealing with the problem, the general public as they may be too scared to go out as they know that knife crimes are happening in their areas, children growing up who are influenced by older people as they may think its ‘cool’ to have a knife on you.
