We have been hearing about Artificial Intelligence for a while now. Phones and computers using the technology to perform complex and human tasks easily and swiftly. Making our lives easier by getting involved in day to day things as well, like taking pictures, making business decisions, performing surgeries etc. So, when it comes to Artificial Intelligence, is it really what we have also seen some Hollywood movies in our childhood (Terminator for example) which talk and tell us about the extensive use of technology and robotic intelligence which have the power to alter human lives and change the way we look at the machines, or is it something far more productive and positive to our lives? Let’s find out!
Back then, when we were young children, we used to get fascinated by the idea of chatting someone online on a computer at home, sitting hundreds of kilometres away from us and being something, which was automated, such as exchange of texts, voice and images, was an awe-struck experience. Since that time, we have come a long way, these days, not only we can chat (that too while moving in a train!) with other person, we also have intuitive ways to deliver our thoughts to the other side. These days, we get text suggestions, emoji suggestions and stickers based on what we write. There are huge sets of algorithms and set of programs involved in taking input from the user and performing decision-based outcomes. All they require is the user data, which he/she inputs and the possible outcomes that they user can go with based upon past records based on the preferences of the user.
Not only this, we can also perform tasks like analysing stock market trends, booking an appointment, fixing an alarm or looking for a place in maps that too using voice command-based algorithms and programs. Moreover, we can expect in near future that the AI based robots doing tasks for us such as detecting irregularities in bank accounts for suspicion of fraud, suggesting treatment to a patient, based on medical history, holding sessions for court cases etc.
There has been a tremendous growth of more than two-fold in the job openings in Machine Learning and Deep Learning (Components of AI) when compared to 2016 and 2017 data itself.
There are signs that automation is already happening. Internationally, robot imports have risen from around 100,000 in 2000 to around 250,000 in 2015. Hence it cannot be denied at all that the use of AI has constantly been increasing and one could not agree more!
To sum up, we can expect the following from the Artificial Intelligence area:
- AI can seamlessly integrate with the human lives to provide decision-based results for our day to day lives;
- Allowing us to make the tasks easier by providing fact and behaviour-based patterns;
- Letting us free from the mundane and repetitive tasks without an aggravation.
Hence, AI has been a contributing factor to what we have been doing since the early times. There has been an astounding growth in terms of investments in the area of AI and the opening of job opportunities gearing up to exploit its full potential. As always there are sides to a story, but it is better to understand both and go with what suits best to our needs.
