More than the technical knowledge I imbued, I relished my graduate school experience due to the internal transformation it brought in me. Prior to my Masters education at Xxxx Xxxx, my life experiences were limited to my home nation, India. However, in Blacksburg, I became a part of a diverse student community. I built a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic friends circle and learned to think from a global perspective. From an academic perspective, my new experiences radically changed my thought process.
Many of the courses were heavily research oriented and due to this, I learned to think out of the box and produced results working with little information. My days in graduate school were tough but I overcame the challenges and utilized the opportunities to learn valuable lessons in life. Looking back at this phase of my life, I can say that I am a better person today due to those experiences. I am aware that the vibrant and diverse student body at Xxxx comprises of a considerable number of international students. I strongly believe that I will be a valuable resource to help international students to not only overcome the culture shock and initial difficulties, but also to utilize the Xxxx experience to build their character.
On the extra-curricular front, I have good experience organizing team events and contributing to community development initiatives. In the past, I have organized knowledge trivia contests and found them to be useful tools for team building as well as for promoting general awareness about history, culture, politics, brands, business, etc. I am confident that I can utilize this experience to augment activities in clubs involving fields such as technology and global business. More recently, I was involved in the local soccer league, in Lynchburg, where I got the opportunity to play the game alongside a multi-national set of players and I have found it to be a great way to learn about various cultures in an informal setting. Soccer is one of my passions and I definitely intend to be part of the Xxxx United soccer club.

One of my biggest assets is my experience in the software technology industry. I have a strong track record of executing software projects in both academic and professional settings. Moreover, I am also someone who likes to take initiative to bring my ideas to fruition by working on personal projects in my spare time. One such example is theAndroid based mobile application that I designed, developed and successfully launched. I strongly believe that my technical expertise, analytical skills and experiences can help me make positive contributions to the High Tech Club.
Coming to social impact, I have had the opportunity to volunteer for community assistance and development programs like the Relay For Life, United Way etc, through my employer facilitated initiatives. In addition to those, I am also involved with TrueIndia Charitable Trust, an India-based registered non-government organization (NGO). The trust provides financial assistance to support the education of underprivileged children in my home state.
I have a strong desire to enhance my contribution to such organizations by coming up with innovative ideas and also by tapping into the experiences of my peers at Xxxx. I want to augment my contribution to programs in both the US, and my home country, India, by connecting interested members of the Net Impact Club with the community organizations that I work with. By doing so, I will be able to involve the Xxxx community in important causes, which in turn will enable me to make a bigger impact than I can with my individual efforts alone.
Over the course of my life, I have experienced academic and professional environments in two vastly different countries. I have been a student, food court worker, software professional and a global traveler. I have participated in community development initiatives in two countries. I am confident that I can leverage my diverse experiences both to provide unique viewpoints that can enrich discussions in class and to contribute to a plethora of extra-curricular initiatives at Xxxx.
