According to Healthy People 2020, one emerging global issue is the growing rate of deaths from noncommunicable causes such as heart diseases, autoimmune diseases, and most cancers (HealthyPeople.gov, 2020). Most of these diseases are incurable and can only be managed to prolong life and improve the health of affected individuals. One of the concerns regarding noncommunicable diseases is that they may affect any populations across the world with new diagnosis on the rise that is attributed to a sedentary lifestyles, rapid unplanned urbanization, unhealthy diets, population ageing, and globalization (HealthyPeople.gov, 2020). Noncommunicable diseases are caused by genetic, environmental, physiological, and behavioral factors and largely affect individual in low and middle-income countries who compose three quarters of the global deaths associated with noncommunicable diseases.

The World Health Organization indicates about 41 million deaths every year which is equivalent to 71% of a deaths globally (World Health Organization, 2020). Cardiovascular diseases are the main contributors to these deaths that cause about 18 million deaths annually followed by cancers that cause about 9 million deaths annually. Noncommunicable diseases put a strain on a nation’s economy in the efforts to address these diseases by the provision of the necessary resources required to manage these diseases (World Health Organization, 2020). Noncommunicable diseases impact the larger public healthcare systems by causing serious socioeconomic problems by hindering social and economic development. The high prevalence in low and middle-income countries imposes a large financial burden in the management of these diseases (World Health Organization, 2020).

This may be attributed to social determinants of health that have led to health inequities leaving the poor more vulnerable to these diseases due to exposure to risk factors that cause these diseases (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Healthcare delivery systems work to address global issues through collaborative leadership that enhances decision-making. Collaboration encourages the development of innovative health care models that provide solutions to global issues (Grand Canyon University, 2018). This is due to cross-cultural collaboration that provides opinions from diverse sources that can be used to develop effective solutions to address global issues in different countries. Due to the complexity of global health issues, these problems require new partnerships and cross-border collaboration between healthcare providers, private organizations, and stakeholders to scale up solutions with a large impact (Grand Canyon University, 2018).
