The definition of gender and sex is mostly interchangeably used in public perception. We all think that this is similar, however, these two are not equal meaning from each other. Here in the United States, once a mother gave birth the healthcare professionals right away assign the baby either girl or a boy based on the infant’s reproductive genitals, this term is referred to as sex. While gender defines a person’s self-representation as a male or female based on attitudes, behaviors, cultures and individuals’ preferences, (McLeod, 2014).

To the question about, how can this affect one’s childhood? How can they avoid being judged by those around them? The issue about gender conflict affects the societies in different ways. Individuals are treated differently from birth varying of their sex. Gender influences when examining the power and common relations between individual of different sex and the same sex, for example, a baby boy must wear pants and a baby girl must wear dresses to recognize their sexual identity. In my own understanding, this probably will not have much effect during the childhood period because kids mostly follow what the mother says and told. They do not have many options instead obey the house rules and the parents. However, once the child reaches maturity and found their real identity this could lead to emotional and social impact. The treatment of the public and peers possibly result to stereotype behavior. The boy who thinks he’s a gay is more prone to getting bully at school, while the girls are more on cast out.

This type of problem also occurs anywhere, however regardless of individual differences we must treat each one another with respect between differences, not in similarities. We have learned that we must all examine our deeply rooted definitions of masculinity and femininity, which give our children only half of the skills and internal resources they need to grow into happy and successful adults,’ (Fortune, 2002, para 7).

How can we teach our children to be comfortable with who they are and who they want to be? We must teach young adult by reinforcing gender differences and expectations every day by not being stereotypical being. Encourage children to understand how the world works in reality and how many words can hurt someone’s ego of being bias to one’s gender regardless other’s think they are different. According to Fortune (2002), ‘Whenever any of us becomes all of who we are, it encourages others to do the same. This is the essence of our work in gender equity, supporting all young people in developing their full humanity and growing up the whole.’

Agree or disagree with Cultural Stereotypes of Masculine and Feminine Traits, why or why not? I would like to say that I affirmatively disagree on some of the traits of Masculinity and Femininity. Not all masculinity is aggressive, disorderly, reckless, and tough. Because I watched my father when I was growing up, he is a very organized person, careful and compassionate to others not only into his children but with those people who needed help. In addition to, my husband is a very orderly and clean person either in or out in our house. On the other hand, women nowadays are independent, adventurous, and dominant in another field. Women now are self-reliant capable of doing things the same as men. This is the reason why I disagree to some of the characteristics.

Anyhow whatever who we want to be, we all deserve to be treated equally as a human being not because of our sex or gender-based. We all deserve respect in all areas of our life that could be home, friends, work, and public areas, encourages children to think much more critically, (Uluc, 2017).
