Galileo Galilei is a great scientist who has made a significant contribution in the science field. Galileo Galilei was the founder of modern physics. Galileo was born in Pisa, Italy on February 15, 1564. He died on January 8, 1642 at Arcetri, near Florence. His father, Vincenzo Galilei was a musician and Galileo’s mother was Giulia degli Ammannati.

In 1581, Galileo began studying at the University of Pisa to study medicine but changed to mathematics and philosophy. He became a professor of mathematics at Pisa in 1589. In 1589, Galileo became mathematics professor at the University of Padua. This position he held until 1610. During this time, he worked on a variety of experiments including the speed at which different objects fall, pendulums and mechanics. He has made fundamental contributions to the science of motion, astronomy, and strength of materials and to the development of the scientific method. The inertia, law of falling bodies and parabolic trajectories are the formulations that Galileo marked for the beginning of a fundamental change in the study of motion.

Italian mathematician, astronomer, physicist and inventor are fields that are familiar with Galileo. He discovered the isochronism of the pendulum or more popular with the law of the pendulum. Galileo demonstrated at the Tower of Pisa that falling bodies of different weights descend at the same rate. In 1609, he invented the first refracting telescope, and used that telescope to discover and make many astronomical discoveries. It included mountains and documented Jupiter’s satellites, sunspots, and craters on the Earth’s moon. Galileo Galilei is considered to be the “Father of the Scientific Method”

Galileo Galilei had discovered a law of the pendulum. At the Cathedral of Pisa, Galileo Galilei has observed a lamp swinging from the chandelier ceiling swing back and forth. Galileo Galilei was the first great scientist to observe how long it took any object suspended from a rope or chain to swing back and forth. The actions of swing back and forth are considered as a pendulum. During that time, there is no wrist watch. Therefore, Galileo used his own pulse as a time measurement. From his observation also, Galileo had noticed that no matter how big the swings were as in when the lamp was first swung to the how small the swings were as the lamp returned to a standstill. The result from that observation is the time it took for each swing to compete was exactly the same. The law of the pendulum would later be used in the construction of clocks and others function.

To conclude, it is proven that Galileo Galilei is a great scientist who has a significant contribution in the science field. Galileo was seen as the hero of modern science. He had made major contributions to the fields of physics, astronomy, mathematics and philosophy. One of the contributions that give advantages in the science field and world nowadays is the law of pendulum. Generally, pendulums are work every day in construction, science, music, art and recreation. However, strictly speaking the pendulum’s function is to regulate movement and provide measurement.

There are many discoveries that were found by Galileo Galilei. The discoveries that Galileo found such as craters and mountains on the Moon, the phases of Venus, Jupiter’s moons, the first pendulum clock, the law of falling bodies and the mathematical paradigm of natural law. From all these discoveries it makes a big impact throughout the world especially in the science field.

Besides, the contributions that make this great scientist become famous because he was the first astronomer to build and use a telescope. He also made a significant contribution to physics in his formulation of the concept of inertia, the resistance of any physical object to any change in its velocity. Next, the Galileo also had a contribution to the application of Mathematics. The other contribution by Galileo Galilei is transformed physics from a plausible framework erected on casual observation of complex everyday experiences.

Lastly, Galileo Galilei was the pioneer in which he started to think about how to see the world that involves measurement, hypothesis, mathematics and reproducibility. The main focus in this case study is Galileo’s pendulum experiment. By the Galileo’s pendulum experiment, it can relate with the scientific method because it was included in using the idea of energy. As we can see, the bob of a pendulum has gravitational potential energy when at the highest point then this will transfer to kinetic energy as it moves downwards. Based on the pendulum experiment by Galileo, the pendulum with a light weight will come to rest faster rather than a pendulum with a heavy weight. Besides, Galileo has created scientific methods that can be separated into three steps which are observation, hypothesis and also testing. Thus, it is important to realize the scientific method because it is not something fixed and recorded.
