How much safer can cars get in the future? “Numerous people die every year from a motor vehicle accidents.” Vehicles need to be safer with stronger steel and more sensors. However, people from 16 to 24” of age are more likely to have an accident and the United States spends billions of dollars every year in medical, lost of productivity, lost of tax revenue, property damage, and social service costs. Experts point out a number of precautions that the male teenage driver should increase his safety on the road. Most fatal traffic crashes have to deal with not wearing a seat belt (‘Motor vehicle safety’).

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration needs to make cars safer. They need to put stronger steel and better sensors to make the vehicle safer. They need to put a sensor if the driver do not put on your seat belt, the vehicle will not move until the driver puts it on. Because occupants do not always buckle up, that puts the driver at high risk of dying in a accident. The first automobile did not have any safety equipment. As time goes by vehicles have got safer and in the 1960’s they started putting seat belts in cars and preventing injuries in vehicle accidents (“Airbag, Automobile”).

Seat belts have proved indispensable for preventing injuries in automobile accidents. They are crucial for saving lives and reducing injuries, and consequently reducing liability expenses, became widely recognized because they put them in Nascar’s and in airplanes. New York was the first state that required the use of seat belts. Numerous people die on the nation’s highways and the death rate was 18 per 100 million miles. In the 1980s states started adopting the law that children be belted in. New york law was the children of the age of 6 and under secured by seat belts (‘New York”).

“However, many people refuse to wear seat belts. They say that the belts are too uncomfortable, or they say they are only driving a short distance. They may also say that they simply forget. With the growing prevalence of state ‘primary laws,’ in which police officers are allowed to stop cars at random to perform seat-belt checks, people are clearly more careful when they know they may be facing a fine.”

Some people do not put their seat belts on because they do not want to and they are more likely to die in a wreck. Only 80% said that they wear their seat belt at all times when they get in their car. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that seat belts have saved more lives between 1975 to 2001. It is a federal law that the driver must have their seatbelt on at all times when driving. Forty-nine of the states have a seat belt requirement for adults, and all of the states is required that children 3 and under must be put in a booster seat.

Congress passed the Transportation Equity Act which includes money for states for new seat belt laws. There is a primary law for wearing a seatbelt, and they are the most effective enforcement tools available. The law lets the police stop an automobile and give them a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt. There is a secondary law that lets the police give the driver of the automobile a ticket for whomever is not wearing a seat belt but the police has to pulls the driver over for some other reason. If the person is obeying all the laws but is not wearing a seatbelt he or she will not be stopped and given a ticket as long as that person is in a state that has a secondary law. (‘Seat Belt Usage’).

Everybody should wear their seatbelts to keep them alive and not getting thrown out of a vehicle and dying. Seatbelts are a safe tool to have in a vehicle. The NHTSA is a federal agency that checks the issue for the safety standards and require manufacturers to recall any safety-related defects. A safety issue defined the problem with a vehicle or the equipment of the vehicle safety. The owner should report possible vehicle safety problems to NHTSA and it could give a recall for the vehicle.

The agency has to receive a certain amount of complaints before the recall is launched. The NHTSA reviews everyone of the report’s for the safety issue. For a person to make a report to NHTSA, it can be done in one of three ways: call a toll-free number, email or the internet. The consumer is asked for information for NHTSA staff to evaluate the problem. Sometimes the factories discover problems from testing and then make recalls to remedy the defects.

The government law requires the factory to report the findings of the problems in their product and take action to remedy the problems. If the NHTSA determines a problems and the factory is given a certain time to notify the owner by first-class mail, all registered owners and purchasers of the affected vehicle. Manufacturers must inform the owners of the problem then provide an evaluation of the risk to the vehicle’s safety.

Once the NHTSA has made a defect recall they have three options to correct the defect: repair, replace, or refund the vehicle. The defect and overall cost to remedy the problem of the vehicle and can determine the factories course of action. In the case of the tires or the equipment, and the manufacturer can replace it, and they have to refund the equipment. The owner must make repairs before the recall is announced.

Manufacturers still provide the reimbursement to owners for the costs of the defect. There is a lemon law which usually applies to purchases or to lease of a new vehicles. Lemon laws cover “executive” vehicles that are about a year old and still have the original warranties. If the manufacturer refuses to give a refund or provide a replacement for the vehicle, the owner may be able to get relief by submitting there complaint to a arbitration forum (“Recall by Manufacturers”).

The vehicles have got safer over time but they could do more to make them safer. The government need to let the factors make they safer. Seatbelts are a good safety tool and everybody need to have it on at all times. Everybody needs to make sure that he or she’s vehicle dont have any recalls and if they do they need to take it and get it fixed as fast as they can.
