In modern day society the evolution of technology has changed in both positive and negative ways. The new and upcoming generation of millennials born between 1981-1996 have really adapted well to the forever evolving cycle of technology. As the millennial begin to grow into adulthood and seeking gainful employment the internet is playing a significant role in the process of elimination. (As reported in 2017, 3.7 million employees (making up 2.8% of the entire U.S. workforce) work from home for at least half the time.).

The tradition method of getting up, leaving home and physically clocking in into an establishment is becoming a thing of the past. Ten years ago, working from home may have seemed like a distant reality but in 2018 it is the future of work. Both telecommuting and telework are terms uses to refer to a working arrangement where the employees or contractors regularly perform their work outside the tradition on-site work environment, the two terms are often used interchangeably. The millennials are the driving force behind the shift in the workforce, remote has become the ideal preference for the new generation.

Employers often argue the advantages and disadvantages of telework and since have begun to accept and adapt to the idea of telecommuting. Some of the advantages of being about to work from home or a remote location are flexible hours, no commute, and increase in job satisfaction. Adjusting work hours to fit personal needs provides the possibly to create more quality time for family and other personal preferences. The other advantage is eliminating the expenses that come with the commute, getting to and from the office and time it takes to get back and forth. The last major advantage of telecommuting is increasing work satisfaction, research has shown that the changes cause by telecommuting in previous section, often result in higher job satisfaction this is a result of the fact that the telecommuter has control over the location, timing, and means of completing the work.

All advantages of telecommuting come with equally justified disadvantages. In this next paragraph I will be presenting the disadvantages of telecommuting. One of the issues that have employers hesitate to accept the method of telework or telecommuting privacy, monitoring productivity and legal concerns. First, with the consist battle to combat imitators releasing or giving remote access to company information is a major concern. Secondly, employers feel that teleworking make is hard to monitor productivity and legal concerns are is by far is an imitated fear. This the up and coming millennials are Telecommuting / Telework have almost the same meaning. Telecommuting is working from home, making use of the internet , email, and the telephone.
