The Battle of Gettysburg was a huge turning point in the Civil War. Robert E. Lee was the main reason why. Robert E. Lee continued to withdraw his plan and stay with it. He never let his men retreat or give up on the possibility of winning, unless they really had to. After a lot of hard working through rough times, they defeated their enemies of Chancellorsville. It was a great defeat through Robert’s part. The other side was so close to being defeated that they had no absolute choice, but to retreat and give up the winning victory. The General, Robert, was extremely proud; however, some defeats were not so great, but this one was luckily one. This day will never be forgotten in history, because of the many turning points. Such as these.
Although, the great success with the defeat in Chancellorsville, there were still many conflicts in the battle. General Robert E. Lee had conflicts with other generals, and was a little opposed to their ideas/their absence to the battle. He depended on other people to play their part, and did not want a lot of them gone. However, the main one he was upset with was General J.E.B Stuart. Lee did not appreciate him being absent at all. He, for the most part, needed him.
After awhile in a battle Robert E. Lee made a military move that was quite infamous in history. He had the Confederates of the state launch huge connonade. Not only did he do that, he had sent them “Pickett’s Charge.” Canons were firing as they stepped in march. J.E.B. Stuart finally showed up shortly after. He was able to now partake in action, and help General Robert. J.E.B. was told to take position and attack the South during battle, while Robert was attacking the North with the soldiers. However, General J.E.B. Stuart had and unlucky outcome. Union Cavalry had the same idea, and they had “met” at the field. This destroyed his plan and caused the matters to partake in something much more worse than what would have happened. The cannonade missed about ever shot. Therefore, it hit pack animals and needed supplies.
Not only did J.E.B. and the Union Cavalry have a huge mistake take part, but it continued to lead to a massive non-weapon fight. However, neither of them had many soldiers to begin with. Therefore, this was the complete opposite of what should have happened in the battle. This was a turning point in the Civil War, and possibly one the biggest.
It was questioned if the Confederates would succeed in winning the Battle of Gettysburg. “The High Water Mark” was at the top. It was known, even today, as the major turning point in the Civil War. However, The Confederates had a wonderful outcome, and they showed great strength and a possibility in winning the whole battle. However, sadly they did not win the whole thing. Though, they had times where they did great, and succeeded. Both Generals had times through rough, and times that were great. It just depended on who was there, who was not, and whether or not they had a decent plan in action. “The High Water Mark” was a terrible time in the Civil War for the Confederates. So unfortunately, they lost. Therefore, this was a huge turning point of the Civil War that shall not be forgotten in humanity.
