In the dictionary, it states “Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” That is the correct definition, but it isn‘t all the way correct for me. Success means to me that you work toward what you want and when you accomplish what you wanted, then that is the true meaning of success. Success to me is settings high goals and trying to complete them. In the book, Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell he states some of the reasons why people are successful and how they can become successful. A few ways why people at successful because of their opportunities (birthdate, and in the right place), timing, 10,000 hours of practice, meaningful work, and legacy. I also believe these are the ways you can become successful.

What I will use to determine my success in life is completing my goals I will set goals that I can work towards. Then with a lot of hard work and dedication, I will someday complete those goals That to me will show my own success through life I am lucky to come from a good home, but I don’t want just any kind of success, I want the kind of success you get from hard work and practice Not just the success that comes from luck. What I will also use to determine my success in life is being happy. Being happy is a goal you can complete every day. Someone else‘s meaning of success could be different from what you think success is. You just have to follow what you There are a bunch of things I can take with me through life from the book Outliers.

The one thing that struck me the most is the 10,000 hours, I never knew that one of the keys to success was practicing for 10,000 hours. The greats weren’t born great they practiced for probably more than 10,000 hours, and that‘s the reason they became successful. If you do what you love 10,000 hours doesn‘t seem that long. Bill Joy would sneak into the computer lab at night and stay there for hours Bill Gates would also sneak into a computer lab at 3 o’clock in the morning. The Beatles went to Hamburg five times and in total they performed for 172 hours. The people that the book talks about were born with something, but in the end they worked towards it.

Gladwell’s assertion that “if you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desires” is a true statement. If you want something to change, you don’t just wait for it to change, you must put your mind to it Also, it states that you shape your world. What it means by that is if you‘re not happy with what‘s going on in your life or you don’t like where you are at, you can change the problems and make the world yours. ln Outliers, the people work towards what they want and in the end they got it.
