On a day-to-day basis women are constantly in the public’s eye; whether it is something positive or something negative. The first newspaper clipping is from tie Metro about Afghan women being strangled to death due to giving birth to a baby girl. This has been an on going issue with the Afghan culture where boys are viewed as more superior than females. The female was not murdered by a stranger but by her own husband; someone who she trusted dearly. This clearly shows that something needs to be done in their society. This is only one of the many cases that have taken place over “16 years, This newspaper clipping relates to what takes place in this class and the textbook one hundred percent In chapter eight of the textbook the authors discuss all about family violence, domestic violence and violence against women. The clipping falls under tie categories of domestic violence and violence and violence against women.

In those sections the texts continues to discuss the severity of domestic violence that women experience things such as choking, beatings or being outright murdered by their spouse. This is exactly what these women experienced in this story. She was murdered at [18 hands of her spouse for something that was supposed to be a joyful experience; the birth of a child, but turned negative so quickly. This topic is definitely newsworthy because in order to make a stop to such negative and shocking behavior the public must be aware. This story making it‘s way around the world will tell people what is going on and ma e them want to help or maybe even make a change in their lives. No one deserves to be abused in any way and sometimes individuals are just scared. This being put into tie media will catch the attention of many and start things such as; walks, and protests and create a stronger women’s rights group for ladies everywhere.

This second newspaper clipping was in the Metro newspaperr This is a story that is more on the positive side of the spectrum. This article in the paper went to discuss tie success story of a woman by the name of Sandra Yancey, Around the times of the 1990’s she was trying to start a business that didn’t end up going very well due to the fact that everyone was a man and she felt like she was getting pushed aside. She invested her own money into creating something that was just her’s so that other women could work side by side with her. The conclusion of her story is she is now running a multi-million dol ar network that is dedicated to women called eWomenNetworkr this relates to the course because this entire course has to do with the trials and experiences that women have been going through for as long as we can remember. Women have been fighting to hold up a positive title for quite some time and this story shows that it is possible for it to be accomplished.

Yancey knew she was trying to be defeated in the beginning but with sie struggled on and was able to set the record straight; that women can accomplish a positive title. This story is definitely newsworthy because girls and women everywhere need to know that they can make a difference in society. In the media positive influences directed towards women are needed, so that women can succeed and equality between men and woman can form. The third newspaper clipping was from the Toronto Sun, which discussed the story of the Safia family that killed all the females in their class because they didn’t want to live like property and in cages. Mohammad Safia the husband and his son Harned Shafia murdered the three women in the house because he thought that they deserved to die for not acting like the property of the men. This was seen as something normal in the Islamic culture; known as a dishonor killing.

This plays a part in this course because it falls into the section of once again domestic abuse towards women, This is another story that was similar to the last but the only difference is that it wasn’t just the spouse that had committed this act it was also the son/brother of the females. In the chapter 8 of the text, the authors talk about family abuse. With that kind of abuse anyone can be included. This story definitely is newsworthy because if this is something that is seen as normal in the Islamic culture than changes need to be made. Other cultures and societies need to be aware and come together to stop the violence against the Islamic women. Women should not be seen as property or like an animal they are a human being with as much as a man. The fourth newspaper clipping was just a little short article in the Toronto Sun captioned Sunshine girl where they have the female of the week and a breakdown of exactly who she is.

This article wasn’t really something that I would see a positive due to the fact that all of the females that are shown on this weekly page are usually half naked or doing a sexual pose. This doesn‘t just show off their beauty it shows suggestive messages. In the textbook a chapter is devoted to how females are portrayed in society. Another thing that I took notice of is the fact that all the females that were in the paper were slim. There was no one to embrace women who are of larger sizes. In the textbook the authors talks about how society focuses on females looking a certain way and being the ideal size. I think that this article is newsworthy to an extent to be able to embrace how beautiful the female race is but what I don’t like about it is that there is more to the average woman, than sexual poses and skimpy outfits. The last article was in the Toronto Sun talking about how Parties struggle to get more women in federal politics.

It discussed the fact that the Canadian government was quite far behind compared to many countries when it came to the fact of women being represented in politics. Women like Jennifer I-Iunter decided to go against men and still try and win the spot in the House This definitely relates to the course because this course mainly has to do with women in politics. Chapter 4 goes ahead to discuss the fact that women did participate in the elections but it was few, And by the nineteenth century they were excluded from the franchise by law, Now women are slowly making a rise in the government. This article was definitely newsworthy because it made more women aware that we do need more women to run in elections. We need more representation of women because there just isn’t that many at all.
