Sustainable goals or SDG is a framework which was set up by the United Nation in order to help economic growth, to tackle social problems and for environmental protection so that people will be living in peace and prosperity by the year 2030. This project was introduced back in January 2016 and was adopted by 193 different countries.
The goals in this project were to help every country to experience no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation and 11 other goals (United Nations, n.d,). However, in having the opportunity to make the world a better place, comes challenges. This paper will be focusing on what are the challenges can be faced in implementing a quality education. Specifically, in one of the developing country, Philippines.
As stated by the United Nation (2015), the purpose of including quality education in the sustainable development goals is to “ensure inclusive and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. Education plays a major role in contributing into economic growth and at the same time in improving the quality of life in terms of knowledge and skills. With education, people will develop ideas that could potentially solve any problem that we are facing in this life. Hence, it is essential in order to promote sustainability.
Philippines is a country located in Southeast Asia. This country of 108,116,615 inhabitants are still considered as a developing country. The education system in this country is managed by The department of Education (DepEd) who are responsible in the allocation of funds and provision for all learning institution in Philippines especially in the primary, secondary and non-formal education stage.(Nuffic,2015).
In addition, every education policy and framework are also created by this department. As one of the 193 countries who agreed to adopt the SDGs framework, Philippines has set to change towards the betterment of its education industry. However, in this process of change there are challenges that need to be solve in order for this country to fill the goal in achieving quality education.
