The two disorders that I chose were Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Conduct disorder. ADHD is a medical disorder that affects the concentration and self-control of the individual. When someone is ADHD, it’s difficult for that individual to remain focused on given task. A child or adult may be more fidgety than others that don’t suffer from ADHD. ADHD can make it more difficult to regulate actions, so children and adolescents can get into more trouble. Conduct disorder is a mental illness diagnosed in childhood or adolescence that occurs from a repeated and recurrent pattern of behavior. Their actions are often referred to as ‘antisocial behaviors. ‘These two disorders have some similarities and can go hand in hand with each other. Conduct disorder frequently co-exists with conditions such as ADHD.

Conduct disorder can develop before or after 10 years of age and is more common in boys than in girls. One in four children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is at risk of developing behavioral disorder. The symptoms of conduct disorders can be violation of rules, which may include truancy and running away from home. One is violent conduct, such as cruelty to animals, fighting and harassment. ADHD displays symptoms of impulsiveness, bad time management, Problems focusing on a task, and poor planning.

ADHD can also cause one to be defiant and have aggressive behavior. Children can have emotional outbursts when asked to do something they find frustrating or intimidating. I feel it is important to under the signs of conduct disorder and ADHD. There are many misconceptions of these disorders. A younger individual may be perceived as a troublemaker at home, school or other public places. People that are not aware will not see that it’s a mental condition. There are many strategies that can be practiced managing ADHD and Conduct Disorder.

Understanding and knowing a child’s pattern is one because you can observe what triggers them to become extremely anger. Be clear and firm about what is expected from them when it comes to having correct behavior. Having these disorders can impact a family because it puts stress on a parent and may cause some depression because a parent wants to help their child the best way they can. I was diagnosed with ADHD at a later age. My mother wasn’t aware of the signs at all. I had behavior issues that later got worst as a teen. I was very aggressive in certain situations and I was overly hyperactive. When I was 15, I was put on medication and I went through therapy. My children are also diagnosed with ADHD but because of being aware, I didn’t have issues with them as much behavior wise. Well it wasn’t as difficult as it was for my mother with me. With the right support anything is possible with any family even though its challenging to deal with
