Why gender in media? Should gender be considered in media? Media and gender mean the link between gender and media and how gender is described in the media tools. True gender is the most difficult serving, seeking to describe thing and far-reaching thing to come out of media. This due to the way that media puts in first place biological differences while gender also based on the reference to social and culture differences rather than biological ones, and media means the main means of mass communication. The media twists out the reality by creating and strengthens gender stereotypes which brings under domination or control over women by drawing them as sex objects, and as dependents of society.
Firstly, gender stereotypes influence individuals’ interpretation of their own achievement. This is most likely where media shows how weak women are that there are some activities which should only be done by men to succeed but while when women do that same thing it will only lead to failure. This discourages women even when they can do it, hence letting it go and end up not doing that activity. This is also common in education where girls take these simple courses as tourism, art among others because they were usually told that sciences are hard, and so they can be afforded by men only for them to be considered strong and risk taking. Whereby this is due to how media show stereotypes between males and females.
Moreover, women are underrepresented on media. Which is considered as if men are the ones who have all what is desired by the society in their hands. A given example is in movies where just a miniature number of women are given speaking roles while men are the one being given all those speaking roles, because they are considered as powerful and supportive people to be given such roles in popular films. And also, in creeps of secular songs where females are required to wear short clothes almost to necked for them to fit in the roles they are to play in the music hence being used as sex objects, while men are putting on usual clothes which do not expose off their bodies like those of women.
Overall, media and gender are so essential to be thought of, since it is important for everyone to be valued the way he or she is, with no offense. The media twists out the reality by creating and strengthens gender stereotypes which brings under domination or control over women by drawing them as sex objects, and as dependents of society. The efficient use of media should be ensured to the avoidance of people’s interpretation of their own achievement before trying to do the activity. Which is also that women should not be underrepresented while women should first be given chance to try do an activity, and then confirm that they are not able to do the activity. Gender equality is very important in media which makes it essential to be considered with gender betrayal exclusion.
