Prostitution has been known as the oldest profession for many years. In the past prostitution has been used in religious rituals to please their god. Although prostitution has been around for many centuries, it doesn’t mean that it’s safe for the prostitutes and their clients. Legalizing prostitution not only but the prostitute’s life in danger but the area that they work in or around of by bringing in possible crimes. Prostitution has been known for being poorly regulated and having high rates of crime involved with their practices. This proves that prostitution has many dangers that can harm prostitutes and their clients, prostitution should be illegal

In the article “Prostitution Should Remain Illegal” Alex K. Rich argues that prostitution shouldn’t be legalized because it’s a harmful and exploitative practice. Prostitution leads to the rise of sexual transmission since prostitutes aren’t given the proper medical care and aren’t required to have a checkup because the pimps that own them don’t want to lose some of their profit. Not only is this unhealthy for the prostitutes but for their clients. They don’t enforce the use of condoms for prostitutes, however, it’s up to their client if they would like to wear a condom or not leaving out the opinion and health of the prostitute out.

Prostitution is a huge factor of human trafficking with pimps paying to bring and kidnap young girls to have them sell themselves in order to make more than they already do. some prostitutes are rape and physically abused when they’re working. Some are unfortunately murdered by their pimps or clients. Prostitution has been known to have the highest percentage of drug addiction and domestic abuse. Women have fallen into prostitution because they have no other source of income. Even if a prostitute recognizes that her job isn’t safe and good for her, she won’t be able to move on from her job because she is seen as nothing more than a prostitute. When they are arrested the blame is blamed on the prostitute and not on their pimp. They don’t listen and are seen as they became part of this practice voluntarily and not as manipulation or by force.

In the article ‘Encyclopedia: Prostitution’ it states that women and man who prostitute themselves do it in order to make a living when they have no other sources. Women are mostly affected when it comes to social classes. Unlike man, these women mostly enter prostitution under economic stress, threats, and manipulations. Although prostitution has been used for a religious reason and even help as an upper level in society, it didn’t stop the rise of sexual transition and the abuse involved the work. As prostitution made Human trafficking rise, it led to the White Slave Traffic Act in 1910, “Forbidding the interstate transport of women and girls for immoral purpose”( par.11).

“Encyclopedia: Prostitution” Issues and Controversies InfoBase Learning pg.5 web 24 October 2018. This Act did help with the trafficking but didn’t lower the number of women involved in prostitution. “A UN report in the early 1990s estimated that India had 2 million women in prostitution, whom about 400,000 were below 18 years of age estimation of 1 million children enter the sex trade”(par.18) “Encyclopedia: Prostitution” Issues and Controversies InfoBase Learning pg.5 web 24 October 2018. In recent years many victims of sex trafficking have come from Asia and Southern Europe.

In comparison, both articles talk about the negative points of prostitution and how not only do they affect those in prostitution but those around them. Bringing crime to the area or city that prostitution is taking place in. Including drug trafficking and rape. Both mention the rise of sexual transition and how the prostitutes aren’t given the proper medical care that should be provided for them. Many prostitutes are not given the option if they want their client want to use protection because it’s the client’s choice and not theirs.

Both include how prostitution is involved in human trafficking which went up certain years. Many pimps would use this method to get prostitutes for their job. Most of the women that are trafficked were from Asia and even Europe. Pimps would take part of the money that prostitutes make in order to make more profit in their business. These pimps would get women and young girls to become prostitutes by either promising them things or treating them. Most of the manipulated, threats and physical abuse led many of them into staying in the business.

Both articles talk about how it’s not the only manipulation that causes a woman to fall into prostitution but also economic stress or because they have no other sources to make a living that they ended up in these situations. Some prostitutes are targeted by their phycological trauma and their drug addiction by their pimps to keep them from leaving or trying to do something that can affect the business. Pimps use these methods not only to keep them in their business but to lure others in it. Both articles talk about how prostitution was practiced for religious purposes but that they weren’t treated properly but sexually abused.

Some of them were murdered by a client or their pimp because they didn’t want to do something the client wanted them to do or their pimp has gotten complains that their prostitute tried to do something. Both articles also argue that prostitution is poorly regulated and have very few strict laws that help protect the prostitutes from their pimps and clients. Prostitutes aren’t given the proper care that they need that involve checkup and sometimes help for their drug addiction and even phycological help. The articles also claim that if they were giving the proper care, they need there wouldn’t be a high raise on sexual transmission and they would be able to get help for their phycological trauma and drug addiction.

On the other hand, in “Prostitution Should Remain Illegal” Alex K. Rich’s article is an argument over why prostitution shouldn’t be legalized. States that prostitutes are the main reason why there are certain types of crime in the area or city they work in. Argues how prostitution has been a major part in human trafficking by importing women from other countries to where they are located. They are targeting younger women for their business by using manipulations. Talks about how many prostitutes have gotten in the business due to childhood trauma and lack of phycological help.

They are also used for drug trafficking and to bring more women into prostitution. However, when they are caught, the prostitutes are the ones to get punished while their pimps get away no matter if they were lured into it or forced. Most are sexually abused when they’re involved in prostitution. Argues how they aren’t given the proper care they need. However, in “Encyclopedia: Prostitution” it gives facts about the past of prostitution. This article uses reports to back up the research it has including numbers and estimations. In this article, they mention how prostitution is known as the oldest profession but are seen very low when it comes to values in society. Talks mostly about the past of prostitution and how it was used religiously.

Mentions how a church tried to help out prostitutes with rehabilitation and taught that if prostitution was gone it would get worse because a man would seek even more sex out of marriage. Focuses mostly on the subject of prostitutes spreading sexual transmitted dieses and the past of prostitution rather than the future events that have happened. Targets how mostly are women the ones to fall into prostitution due to economic stress or having to make up for a debt they couldn’t pay. Most of these woman and young girls are trafficked from Asia And Southeastern Europe. Mentions how there was an act passed to prevent these women from getting traffic.

Therefore, prostitution has many dangers for prostitutes, their clients and the areas they work in. Sexual transmission has always played a part of the dangers of being a prostitute because there will always be a rise of it spreading were there will be prostitution taking place. Another danger that involves prostitution is the trafficking of young girls and women from other places and the abuse that takes place.

Many have a childhood or psychological traumas and didn’t seek for help which led to them to fall into the hands of pimps and ended up working for them. The use of condoms isn’t enforced in prostitution which can lead the having health problems for the prostitutes or for their clients. Prostitution can also ruin the life of the prostitute because they’ll be seen low in social values even after they’ve gotten out of prostitution it’s an image that remains with them where ever they go.

Many pimps take advantage of these prostitutes to have them sell drugs for them by manipulating them such as by making them believe they are more important than the others or make them believe the only reason they are saving them from prostituting themselves is that they love them and that why they’re given an easier task. Some are forced and unfortunately threaten from abuse to having someone close to them brought into the situation. Since prostitution is poorly policed many of the pimps get away with a lot of these things that they’ve done but when caught, the prostitutes are the ones who get all the blame no matter what their situation might have been.

Many of these prostitutes have no other option but to stay in the position they are in because are afraid of what might happen if they try to get out and fear of what can happen if they reach out for help. Prostitution shouldn’t be legalized because there are many factors that are dangerous to the prostitutes and the area around them. Many prostitutes live in danger every single night of their life because they can’t do anything to protect themselves from the danger that surrounds them.
