Being born and raised in a culture where parents carve the pathways for education and/or career for their children, be it which school they attend, what major studies they may choose or which career scope would be the best fit for them, I guess mine wasn’t so different. My parents had an extremely strong influence on my development and interests and, consequently, impacted my decision to pursue Undergrad education in Electrical Engineering in United States.
I have always had a diverse bunch of intellectual interest. When I began my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to be exposed to wide range of engineering courses, all of which reinforced and strengthened my interest in engineering. I took different Elective courses such as Digital, Control Systems, Telecommunication, Parallel processing, which exposed me to different areas of Electrical/Electronic Engineering and kept my thirst of learning alive; the more I learned the more it pumped me to keep learning.
My current living has prepared me well for my chosen Graduate Studies. I currently work as an Electrical/System Engineer for WIN-T (Warfighter Incremental Network – Tactical) systems at Tobyhanna Army Depot. WIN-T is the U.S. Army’s mobile tactical network support, which provides soldiers on the field the ability to securely communicate via voice, data, and video simultaneously without the need for a fixed infrastructure.
As a kid I observed my Father showing a lot of dedication and deference to his profession and I think that’s one value that both my parents have fostered in me as well. I tend to give 100% to any assignment, project, or job that comes to my hand. It is very important for me to be honest to one’s occupation that earns you your bread, a roof over your head, that makes you independent and earns you respect. At this point of my career, I have realized that I can contribute more to my job, I can learn more, excel more, expand my skills and climb up the ladder on my career. Hence, in the realm of excelling at my job, moving forward with my career and contributing more to my profession, I have decided to pursue my Graduate Studies.
For my career goals, there are two areas I would like to expand my knowledge on – Telecommunications Systems and Systems Engineering. I believe a Master’s degree in Telecommunications would help me refine my knowledge and skills, contribute more to my field of profession and exposure to Systems Engineering would help me oversee engineering, business and management aspects of a project and/or a system. All of these knowledges and skills would eventually provide me with professional development opportunities. And George Mason’s Hybrid MS in Telecommunication program offers courses in network technology, applications, wireless communication and system engineering in which majority of the courses can be completed online. So, this package offered by George Mason comes out to be the perfect program to chase and fulfill my goals.
I am also very aware of the excellent reputation of George Mason University, and my conversations with several of your alumni have served to deepen my interest in attending. I believe George Mason’s courses and curriculum are the best for working and aspiring professionals and I hope I would be given the valuable opportunity to attend your college and learn from and amongst the best.
