The purpose of this essay is to inform reader about The Army Values. The Army Values is what drives the Army. The values are Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage. The acronym LDRSHIP is underlying in the fact that the Army produces the best leaders in the world by using seven words. The Army Values embodies every Soldier in the Army.
The Army describes Loyalty as “Bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, your unit and other Soldiers”. Loyalty is a Soldier who stands up for his leaders and his fellow soldiers. A Soldier who has loyalty to his country is unstoppable. Soldiers go to war for each other that is loyalty. Being loyal to the nation and history plays a big role in mission success. Without loyalty, we would not have had victories in many wars throughout history.
Duty is more than just going to work. Duty is your willingness to do anything for the country. You must obey all law, regulations, and orders. Do not just exceed the standard in your duties, work to the best of your abilities. Duty does not end when you go home at the end of the day, you can receive a call to go into battle. I do not know many Soldiers that would say no. Duty for your country is what drives Soldiers to achieve greatness.
Respect is treating other how you want to be treated. You earn respect from respecting others. To me respect is the most important. Without respect, a team will fail and the mission will be unsuccessful. Per goarmy.com “self-respect is a vital ingredient with the Army value of respect, which results from knowing you have put forth your best effort.” Self-respect is in every Soldier. You must accomplish a task to the best of your ability. When you respect each other, a mission will flow smoothly and be successful every time.
Selfless Service is putting others before you. We all are selfless when we raised our right hand. We made the decision to enter a career when you can go to war for your country. Selfless service is wearing the uniform without the idea recognition or gain. While deployed you are away from your family for a long period so others can be with their families all the time. Every Soldier is selfless and if given the opportunity, will continue to be selfless so other can live free.
Honor is living with the Army values every day. The highest award you can achieve is the Medal of Honor. This award is achieved by having honor being selfless.
If somebody does not live up to their own expectations, they have no honor.
