The holidays are fast approaching and like most people, perhaps you already have a gift list started. Shopping for kids is easy (and fun!), but when it comes to the aging adult in your life, gift-giving can get a little tricky. Here is a list of some wonderful gift ideas sure to please seniors in any stage of life.

All in the Family

Giving a recent family portrait or a photo book filled with memories is a great way to bring a smile to your loved one’s face. Check out Walmart, Costco, or Shutterfly for some great prices and designs.

Keeping it Cozy

Fuzzy blankets, cozy slippers, a new set of pajamas, or a pair of soft gloves will go a long way in making your loved one feel warm on the inside and outside.

 Music for any Mood

If your aging loved one has entered the technologically advanced world then download some of their favorite music on their ipod or smartphone. If not, CDs are still readily available (and usually super inexpensive) so find out what artists make their feet tap and gift a few.

Art for the Creative

There are some fantastic and beautiful adult coloring books out there, so find a genre that would interest the senior in your life. Don’t forget the colored pencils!

Pick a Puzzle

Word searches, sudoku, crosswords, or good old fashioned jigsaw puzzles are wonderful ways to keep the brain engaged while having fun at the same time.

For the Techie

The Amazon Echo responds to voice commands, plays music, tells the weather forecast, gives news updates, and even reads audiobooks. It also does a lot more and is simple to use so be sure to check it out. There are several options in many price ranges.

Promote Relaxation

A simple manicure, pedicure, or trip to the hair salon or barber shop can make someone feel like a new person. For family members who like to stay in their home, consider weighted blankets, simple hand-held massage tools, or some new nail polish colors.

Books for All

Large print books are available readily on Amazon, and everyday more audiobooks are being added online as well. Depending on where you live, the local library would also be a great place to grab these great resources. E-readers are also relatively inexpensive and some are very simple and easy to use.

For the Sweet Tooth

You’d be hard pressed to find a senior who doesn’t have a liking for something sweet to enjoy. There are lots of sugar-free options for the diabetic in your life, and you can never go wrong with a small box of See’s Candy. Although it is fun to give and receive gifts, it seems as though spending quality time with family is high on most seniors’ wish lists.

If you are not in the same physical location as your loved one, sending a Christmas card, making a phone call, and using Facetime or Skype to chat are all good ways to show your love this holiday season. If you do live close make sure to include them in your holiday plans, and remember that your presence is much more important than any present you could give.

Merry Christmas!
