Education can be defined as the process of receiving and giving specific information. It can also be described as the process of developing the powers of reasoning and judgement. Mentorship on the other hand, is a period during which a person receives orientation from somebody either a friend, or family member. Mentors provide people with the obligatory to push us in the correct direction. Coming of age is the act of not being a child anymore. That is the transition from childhood to adulthood. Education and mentorship are one of the most cited ideas in Sophie’s World and is also very important in our life today. Below are some important points of education and mentors in our life and the society
To begin, Sophie’s World have two personal characters who are being educated on a course called Philosophy. These characters are Sophie Amundsen and Hilde Snag. These two girls will try to apply philosophy to their own lives to be more mature and have self-control. Philosophy did not just increase their creativity, but also their thinking process and imagination. As in our society, people use education to mature and have self-control.
Again, education is also an interaction between people, so we need to interact with others to be educated. As we have said in the beginning, education is the act of giving and receiving information. From experience, it is difficult for somebody to educate himself/herself, yet people can still educate themselves. For example, we have self-education which is a practice that people use till today.

Moreover, in order to have a successfully journey, you require guidance from a confident mentor. The wide range of favorable characteristics and values that mentors possess are necessary to pass the door and have a successful journey. Mentors can recognize weaknesses and allow you the opportunity to improve upon them through a process that eventually leads to reparation and self-knowledge. Alberto as a mentor tell Sophie not to give upon anything she does in life. The purpose of Sophie’s philosophy course was also to teach Hilde how to live and cope with her emotions. From the book, Hilde attend her philosophy course by reading Sophie’s philosophy and that is how she became mature. Mentors aims to build confidence and develop characters.
In the same way, education helps us to deal with our challenges. Everyone should know the importance of education. From Sophie’s World we see how education had an impact on Sophie’s and Hilde’s life. Education enables us and prepare us in every part of our life. With education it is difficult to be an ignorant because an educated person will know what is good and bad. Also, education brings good habits and knowledge about socials problems. A good example of some body educated is that person who first is a good citizen and successful in nearly everything he/she does. Education is the background of our life.
Some nations today lack proper education. Most of the problems facing improper education in some country (especially in Africa and central America) are poverty, lack of schools, classroom size, student health or technology. With these problems, it is difficult for people to have proper education. One of the most important factors is finance. As human being, we need to help these countries through funding. To plan our future, we will have to put an important emphasis on education. Without education we wouldn’t have the technology we have today. In Sophie’s World, Sophie and Hilde are being trains to be philosophers in the future. Both Albert and Hilde father are training these two girls to become good philosophers. Alberto goal was to produce knew generations of Philosophers and that is an important aspect of education. We need to educate people to plan the future, because if we miss this, it would be difficult for our children or the future generation to know what happen during the past.
To conclude, education is very essential to us and even helps in the progress of a country. Without education it is impossible for somebody to be successful in life. Ignorance can be vanished through education. Also, mentors are very important because they encourage us and always try to figure out positive feelings that are kept in ourselves. Mentors equip people with a good education and helps in drawing out our talents, so that we may be able used our skills properly. Education helps us in building our point of view or own opinions. No matter what everybody needs to be educated. Education is the easiest way to acquired knowledge.
