This essay has been submitted to us by a student. This is not an example of the work written by our writers.

As per the case study report given, as a single mother with three young children I would report saying it’s only natural for employees to get to know each other. In fact, it’s great for workplace if colleagues get along. But over time, during idle hours or through casual conversation around the water cooler, office gossip can start to rear its ugly head. The bad news is it’s a toxic part of working life. At this moment, there are two group of colleagues, saying the company is being downsized with lots of debts running and in another hand, a group saying that this are only gossips. This is because company is still in a good shape.

As a single mother, I have to identify the issue and think how to overcome this situation. Working with colleagues requires a high degree of co-operation, understanding nature, and maturity. Having these attributes in professional life is important for stress-free career. But even though one is bearing all these characteristics, there are some who would always try to create problems in the workplace. Despite all the optimistic talk and promising signs, the company economic recovery has yet to arrive. And perhaps the only thing worse than having to deliver bad news to your employees is dealing with rumors that you are going to have to. In other words, ignoring the rumors is simply going to increase employee concerns, distract us from doing their jobs and make the situation worse. After my spouse met an accident and passed away, as a single mother this takes a lot of courage and thinking skills to be adapted in order what to do next for my family living. Shall I apply a job or stay in the company ?

From the conceptions of Hayes (1981), I need to find out the problem and try to represent the solution. Hence, I would personally reject the claims given by my colleagues saying that company is being downsized due to involvement in a lot of debts. This can be judged by certain factors and contribution. If the rumor is groundless, Emory Mulling wrote in The Atlanta Business Journal, call a staff meeting and “address the issue and stress that rumors will not be tolerated.” If the grapevine has some details right, “do your best to provide enough information to put everyone at ease.”And if, as often happens, employees have heard about a development that you weren’t quite ready to announce, “let them know you have nothing to hide, but that you didn’t want the information publicized until all the details were confirmed.” Especially, a “proof of debt” is a statutory declaration by the creditor of a statement of account, showing the proof of the debt owed to them by the company with supporting documents, validating the debt.

I can say many companies do run in debt and are struggling ways to earn their profitability as well. But to downsized a company is not that simple process which is believable. We employees are given salary in monthly basis and production is running smoothly too. Therefore, this claim can be said pass along false information or spreading gossips. Negative energy doesn’t just create itself. There is always a reason behind someone sharing information that disrupts harmony in the workplace. That’s why it’s important to understand the true meaning of gossip and refrain from becoming high-minded when someone presents the latest scandal to you. Besides that, this claim can be trusty if the management from finance department would able to say then the ordinary colleagues because the managerial person knows well of the actual company’s movement. While it is true that I have the option of walking away from gossip at work, I can also change the atmosphere by saying that company is still in a good shape as employees are also working to run their life. A simple compliment about the work ethic could make the conversation turn for the better.

At the next third step by Hayes (1981), I’ll need to plan the solution or apply new ideas ro overcome this problem. Because people are born problem solvers, the biggest challenge is to overcome the tendency to immediately come up with a solution. Let me say that again. The most common mistake in problem solving is trying to find a solution right away. That’s a mistake because it tries to put the solution at the beginning of the process, when what we need is a solution at the end of the process. As a single mother to survive the earnings and financial purposes, I need to do extra work or maybe second job as part time. Effective problem solving does take some time and attention more of the latter than the former.

But less time and attention than is required by a problem not well solved. What it really takes is a willingness to slow down. A problem is like a curve in the road. Take it right and you’ll find yourself in good shape for the straightaway that follows. Take it too fast and you may not be in as good shape. Therefore, any decisions are to think wisely before doing it. For example, resigning the job from current workplace just because some colleagues are talking about the company being downsized. Working through this process is not always a strictly linear exercise. You may have to cycle back to an earlier step. For example, if you’re having trouble selecting an option, you may have to go back to thinking about the interests. This process can be used in a large group, between two people, or by one person who is faced with a difficult decision. The more difficult and important the problem, the more helpful and necessary it is to use a disciplined process.

An ounce of , the best way to deal with rumors or gossips is to make sure they don’t get started in the first place. “Preventative measures should include keeping staff regularly, fully and honestly informed of planned changes through a range of tailored formal and informal communication such as e-mails and face-to-face meetings at various levels” of the organization, Kim Harrison said on Cutting Edge PR. “Sometimes external stakeholders also need to receive timely messages to prevent a harmful rumor from spreading outside the organization.” Anybody can spread gossips but to believe and evaluate it depends from whom the sources are being delivered to the employees.

Therefore, to make a decision. This stage is perhaps the most complex part of the problem-solving process. Yet it involves careful analysis of the different possible courses of action followed by selecting the best solution for implementation. Make sure to choose the best option in the balance or to “bundle” a number of options together for a more satisfactory solution. By being a single mother with three young children is not that easy to make a decision yet is has to be made to overcome the claims going on at workplace. Furthermore, as an experienced colleagues with having no proper evidence, I shall remain to wait and work as usual because there isn’t any official notice given out by the higher management on employees will need to resign due to company being downsized.

Knowing all the above case, we tend to do three things when faced with a problem. We get afraid or uncomfortable and wish it would go away, we feel that they have to come up with an answer and it has to be the right answer and we look for someone to blame. Being faced with a problem becomes a problem. And that’s a problem because, in fact, there are always going to be problems! There are two reasons why we tend to see a problem as a problem. It has to be solved and we’re not sure how to find the best solution, and there will probably be conflicts about what the best solution is. Most of us tend to be ‘conflict-averse’. We don’t feel comfortable dealing with conflict and we tend to have the feeling that something bad is going to happen. The goal of a good problem-solving process is to make us and our organization more ‘conflict-friendly’ and ‘conflict-competent’. Once you realize that problems are a good thing, you will be motivated to solve them and improve as a company. These problem-solving techniques actually work, and with the right mindset, you will be able to tackle issues at work like a pro.

We all have faced such scenes where some clashes between two employees happen at work. Rather than adopting a blame game, we have 3 most effective problem solving strategies that you can adopt for your workplace, to get things done. These problem solving strategies are logical, and will help you in improving the productivity. IDEAL problem solving strategy. First is Identifying the problem. Rather than going with the blame game, try to find what exactly is the problem? The real problem may not be the one that you’re facing right now. For example: Sales team failed to meet targets this year. Rather than blaming entirely on the sales, try to find what caused them to fail this month. May be there was not enough support from development team to improve the product or support team wasn’t helping. There’s always a cause that leads to a problem, that’s the first step. Second is Defining the cause. After finding out all the possible reasons, define the problem in one line. What exactly is the problem? Not the situation that you’re facing because that can be one of the results of the main cause. Define the cause, in one simple line. Defining the cause can save you from many upcoming problems.

For example, if a company failed to perform to complete a task on time, and the cause is “Weak communication between teams”, there more than one problems that can be solved by solving the cause. To solve “weak communication between teams”, you can implement various tools for communication. By solving the cause, work productivity can also be improved. The time taken for tasks will reduce, and average time to complete a project will reduce. Hence, solving a case will solve multiple problems. Third is Exploring possible strategies. Now that you know the cause that formed the problem, again you have to brainstorm. Think about all the possible solutions and strategies that can be easily implemented at your workplace. You should definitely take suggestions from your teammates, as they have suffered the problem. The fourth step is to Act. Choose from the list of possible solutions and start acting on it. Here’s the fun about not wasting your time and killing productivity. When you try a new solution quickly, you will see the changes very quickly as well.

Now, if you think a particular solution is not solving the problem, you can quickly shift to the next solution. That way, you’ll find the needed workflow in a short span. The last one is to Look back and Learn because there’s always some learning. There’s a great quote from Robert H. Schuller, “Problems are not stop signs, they are guidelines.” Stopping the problem was not in your hand at some point, but you can stop the upcoming bizarre events by learning a lesson. IDEAL is one of the finest problem solving strategies because it is a general theory. Not just for your workplace, you can implement this problem solving strategy for personal benefits too.

With all the thinking skills and problem solving issue on this case, I shall overcome this claim whether to apply job else where or to stay and work as usual without getting the gossips into my head with some good reliable solutions. Problem-solving tools can be divided into two categories. The first set comprises general tools that can be used to resolve any situation. These includes brainstorming, benchmarking cause, effect diagrams and flow charts. Nobody likes problems. But they are a part of life, so it’s important to find effective ways to deal with them. The following strategies can help you navigate through potential solutions to find the one that works best in almost any situation. Encouraging productivity and creativity. Solve it by finding out how your employees work best, starting work at the crack of dawn, working in teams, working from home occasionally or coming in on weekends to work when nobody else is in the office. We’re

all different, so we’re bound to have different preferences. Accommodate those we can, and that accommodation should repay us tenfold. Delegating. Solve this problem by forcing our self to isolate tasks that don’t require your higher level thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as our other talents. After all, we bring distinctive skills to our workplace and the more time we spend on tasks that only we can perform the more productive our work will become. It is important to have open communication lines from down to top so that all employees will have a venue to air grievances and a chance to be heard and propose solutions. At the same time, it allows transparent room for improvement, whatever the cause of problem may be. Adopting the right problem solving strategies minimizes the rift between your workers, improves customer relations and at the same time, increase production, profit and project better organization image.

Conclusion

As the conclusion, effective problem solving does take some time and attention more of the latter than the former. But less time and attention than is required by a problem not well solved. What it really takes is a willingness to slow down. A problem is like a curve in the road. Take it right and you’ll find yourself in good shape for the straightaway that follows. Take it too fast and you may not be in as good shape. This process is used in a group, between two people, y one person who is faced with a difficult decision. The more difficult and important the problem, the more helpful and necessary it is to use a disciplined process. I would take the gossips are always going to be done for negative acts. Therefore, as a single mother with three young children I have decided to stay at my present company as I have worked for many years. With that, I would continue my service to upgrade better flow and productivity to avoid any debts or lost. Working effectively with a group og employees will definitely gain more then lost. Hence, without any offer official announcement on company being downsized, I will not think further to self harm hence I shall make my personal decision with a good peace of mind to continue working to run a better management in company as well as in my family.
