As per the case study report given, as a single mother with three young children I would report saying it’s only natural for employees to get to know each other. In fact, it’s great for workplace if colleagues get along. But over time, during idle hours or through casual conversation around the water cooler, office gossip can start to rear its ugly head. The bad news is it’s a toxic part of working life. At this moment, there are two group of colleagues, saying the company is being downsized with lots of debts running and in another hand, a group saying that this are only gossips. This is because company is still in a good shape.

As a single mother, I have to identify the issue and think how to overcome this situation. Working with colleagues requires a high degree of co-operation, understanding nature, and maturity. Having these attributes in professional life is important for stress-free career. But even though one is bearing all these characteristics, there are some who would always try to create problems in the workplace. Despite all the optimistic talk and promising signs, the company economic recovery has yet to arrive. And perhaps the only thing worse than having to deliver bad news to your employees is dealing with rumors that you are going to have to. In other words, ignoring the rumors is simply going to increase employee concerns, distract us from doing their jobs and make the situation worse. After my spouse met an accident and passed away, as a single mother this takes a lot of courage and thinking skills to be adapted in order what to do next for my family living. Shall I apply a job or stay in the company ?

Hence, I would personally reject the claims given by my colleagues saying that company is being downsized due to involvement in a lot of debts. This can be judged by certain factors and contribution. I can say many companies do run in debt and are struggling ways to earn their profitability as well. But to downsized a company is not that simple process which is believable. We employees are given salary in monthly basis and production is running smoothly too. Therefore, this claim can be said pass along false information or spreading gossips. Negative energy doesn’t just create itself. There is always a reason behind someone sharing information that disrupts harmony in the workplace. That’s why it’s important to understand the true meaning of gossip and refrain from becoming high-minded when someone presents the latest scandal to you. Besides that, this claim can be trusty if the management from finance department would able to say then the ordinary colleagues because the managerial person knows well of the actual company’s movement. While it is true that I have the option of walking away from gossip at work, I can also change the atmosphere by saying that company is still in a good shape as employees are also working to run their life. A simple compliment about the work ethic could make the conversation turn for the better.

Because people are born problem solvers, the biggest challenge is to overcome the tendency to immediately come up with a solution. Let me say that again. That’s a mistake because it tries to put the solution at the beginning of the process, when what we need is a solution at the end of the process. As a single mother to survive the earnings and financial purposes, I need to do extra work or maybe second job as part time. Effective problem solving does take some time and attention more of the latter than the former.

But less time and attention than is required by a problem not well solved. What it really takes is a willingness to slow down. A problem is like a curve in the road. Take it right and you’ll find yourself in good shape for the straightaway that follows. Take it too fast and you may not be in as good shape. Therefore, any decisions are to think wisely before doing it. For example, resigning the job from current workplace just because some colleagues are talking about the company being downsized. Working through this process is not always a strictly linear exercise. You may have to cycle back to an earlier step. For example, if you’re having trouble selecting an option, you may have to go back to thinking about the interests. This process can be used in a large group, between two people, or by one person who is faced with a difficult decision. Once you realize that problems are a good thing, you will be motivated to solve them and improve as a company. These problem-solving techniques actually work, and with the right mindset, you will be able to tackle issues at work like a pro.

We all have faced such scenes where some clashes between two employees happen at work. For example, if a company failed to perform to complete a task on time, and the cause is “Weak communication between teams”, there more than one problems that can be solved by solving the cause. The time taken for tasks will reduce, and average time to complete a project will reduce. Hence, solving a case will solve multiple problems. Third is Exploring possible strategies. Now that you know the cause that formed the problem, again you have to brainstorm. Think about all the possible solutions and strategies that can be easily implemented at your workplace. You should definitely take suggestions from your teammates, as they have suffered the problem. The fourth step is to Act. Choose from the list of possible solutions and start acting on it. Here’s the fun about not wasting your time and killing productivity. When you try a new solution quickly, you will see the changes very quickly as well.

Now, if you think a particular solution is not solving the problem, you can quickly shift to the next solution. That way, you’ll find the needed workflow in a short span. The last one is to Look back and Learn because there’s always some learning. There’s a great quote from Robert H. Schuller, “Problems are not stop signs, they are guidelines.” Stopping the problem was not in your hand at some point, but you can stop the upcoming bizarre events by learning a lesson. Hence, without any offer official announcement on company being downsized, I will not think further to self harm hence I shall make my personal decision with a good peace of mind to continue working to run a better management in company as well as in my family.
